Well now that I'm following Dr Jack Kruse on Facebook, today's post was interesting, and surprise, somewhat related to this thread.
Microwaves commonly operate at the 2450 MHz frequency. In an animal study, electromagnetic fields/EMFs at 2450 MHz caused more activity of acethycholinesterase that breaks down acetylcholine. The exposure caused them to have less of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, Significant cognitive deficits. And some more findings.
I wanted to understand more of it. This took some reading and some help. about
the study saying there was release of the complex cytochrome c, which you may remember, starts out in the electron transport chain of mitochondria. It turns out that release of cytochrome c from mitochondria is a key "initiative" step in the apoptotic process. Apoptosis is a programmed cell death/suicide.
Capsase-dependent apoptosis is a consequence of mitochondrial membrane damage, as in traumatic brain injury, and/or with polarity reversal in the membrane, but there are also "mitochondrial permeability transition pore
openings". Mitochondria are within our cell cytoplasm, but separated from it by their own membranes. "If cytochrome c becomes cytoplasmic, it interacts with apoptotic protease factor 1, ATP, and pro-capsase-9 [which is in in the study Kruse posted] to form an apoptosome.[Kunz et al. 2010; Lo et al.,2005; Zhang et al., 2005.]
