Gapebentin for Fibormyalgia

Wondering if anyone is ever used any amount of Neurontin (Gapebentin) for Fibromyalgia. Seems last week the first 5 days was like a miracle and now not much help.

Hi Quando, Gabapentin takes several weeks to become fully effective. It also depends on the dosage the dr intends for you to have. It is started at a lower dose & may be increased over a period of time. Once you get to a therapeutic level hopefully it will work for you.

I tried it many years ago and it did nothing to help my fibro pain. Currently I'm taking it for a totally different reason - hot flashes, if you can believe that one. I was surprised that it works well for me and since I take it at bedtime I don't feel any side effects.

For your uses I'd go with what Susie said. Give it time to work and hopefully you'll get some relief.

I went up to 1800 mg a day. Didn't see any difference.

Hi, Quando, and welcome! I have not used this medication but many members have and a lot have had good success with it. You were probably started off at a lower dose and now it needs to be raised a little until you reach the dose that will help you for a long time. Do talk to your doctor about it.

I find it encouraging that you had good success with it right away! Hopefully this will be a great medication for you. We are all so different and what helps one with fibro won’t necessarily help another. It’s trial and error but it sounds like you got lucky early on. Do let us know how you are doing because we do care about you.

I was on 100 mg ,very less dose was told.

MAX can be 3000mg .

I might go on 500 mg .

low dosage works for some not me.

I have been on it for about 6 years now (300 mg, 3 times a day). Whether it's mostly helping my Fibro pain or nerve pain more these days, I'm not even sure anymore. It all kind of runs together at this point!

I hope it ends up doing something good for you.

I was given a prescription for 300 mg, then later I requested the 100 mg capsules. I liked them much better, as sometimes only a small amount helps me, and I don't get the side effects as bad.

Especially for nerve pain, gabapentin seems helpful; at least that's been my experience.

I take 50mg of trazodone to get to sleep and 300mg of gabapentin to keep me asleep. This was prescribed for me from my fibro doc and works really well.
