Any advice appreciated

Hi, Tommy, and welcome! We all have chronic pain in this forum. Some are worse than others. The pain will wax and wane. If it turns out that you have fibromyalgia...which doctors now are thinking is a neurological problem...you could be in what we call a flare. The pain is worse than usual.

Fibromyalgia affects all four quadrants of the body with pain, which is what you have described. We have fatigue, many times cognitive memory problems, plus a variety of other symptoms. Some have certain symptoms and others have different symptoms. We are not all alike.

The same goes for what helps us get in control of the pain. I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, vitamin D3, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin (Methocarbamol) that has made a significant difference in my pain. I also walk daily as a gentle form of exercise and pace myself when doing things. All of this has helped me live a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness.

There are more powerful medications like Lyrica, Savella, Cymbalta and various other antidepressants that have helped some. I chose to try the over the counter things first and they work for me.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. At the very beginning is an interview with Dr. Clauw who has been studying fibro for years. He explains the neuro connection quite well. Also, be sure to check out the links about the magnesium malate and vitamin D3. Deficiencies in these nutrients can cause pain! All of Fibro 101 is good so do read it.

I used to have the restless leg issues, but taking magnesium usually controls that, its also good for our muscles

All of us have pain in varying levels, also fatigue..

One of my physical therapists believes there is neuroinflamation at the cellular level..in my bloodwork, it does not show inflamation yet its believed to be there, maybe from a latant virus..i get help from anti inflamatories, but i am not at all sure that works for everyone..

Have they checked your vit d levels? I managed with fibro but when my d levels dropped, i had every symptom and felt 80.

I use a generic verion of corvalen m for fatigue. It helped tremendously as i raised my kids to keep up with them..

I am med sensitive, so topical pain relievers help relieve bad areas of pain , when i cannot really tolerate more medication.

As far as i know its still about 20 per cent with fibro are male.

Its very trial and error what helps each of us.

Maybe it is restless leg syndrome? Gabapentin is a medication that is popular in treatment of some disorders. Perhaps that is something to discuss with you doctors? It is a nerve medication that can calm things down. Good luck with it. Hope you find something helpful.

Sherrine, I also take Robaxin and it is very helpful, I agree! I had been taking Soma for a long time and they did make me foggy. I recently had neck surgery and while in the hospital met a new primary care Dr I really like. He switched me to the Robaxin and what an improvement all around. I am sorry to hijack the post, Tommy! I wanted to add my two cents to the Robaxin. And Gabapentin. Both have been very helpful for me.
