I always recommend having a dog/dogs to help us keep active. In July we sadly had to euthanize our 11 year old golden retriever. Our 3 year old golden really started having anxiety problems then and of course we were devastated. I went into a flare at the same time.
Fast forward to now. We have been on 2 wait lists at golden rescues and Wed.we were able to adopt a new baby. Now, the one thing I said I didn't want was a puppy. Sooooo much work. Guess what! 8 month old female puppy is now living with us.
I feel better already. I'm sure some of my flare was depression. Our new baby will be a lot of work and I will be VERY active. I can't walk them at the same time so I will be walking twice as much. And then there is the training. But really worth it! And our 3 year old golden seems so much better already too. Win win.

Yay! I'm so happy for you! I totally agree, there's nothing like a new puppy. Constant smiles :D
(I truly couldn't handle one anymore, but if I could, boy, I sure would. I can't even walk or wash or brush ours as it is.)

Oh, WOW, I’m so happy for you! Being eight months old isn’t too bad. I love puppy breath and hopefully your puppy still has that. What have you named the pup? Auntie Sherrine is being nosy.
I think you will get better and better and the added walking will probably help you. You will be smiling a lot more now and that helps too. Your three year old Golden is smiling more too! So congratulations, Mommy!

Auntie Sherrine, her name is Cassidy but we call her Cassie-the rescue people named her that and we are sticking with it. She is a very good dog with some issues of course. She was a 'street' dog in another country. The foster family worked with her on a lot of things and we are getting a trainer to help us.
I think it is great that these rescue groups from all over work together.
Debbie, I know what you mean about
brushing the dogs. I can walk them ok right now, even with the arthritis in my feet and ankles and the knee replacement. But the brushing is hard, and of course goldens are very hairy. I have to get a shoulder replacement sometimeg in the coming year due to a torn rotator cuff and other damage. Having had large dogs most of my adult life, training them, having them pulling etc. probably is the major cause of this. But I get so much joy from them!
I think if I didn't have the dogs to take care of I would get lazy and sit around and read all day eating bonbons.😏

Puppylover and Acheybody, what about
those gloves you can get that basically brush your pet while you pet them? That might be easier on you and would get a lot of the fur off and then it could be far easier to comb through them with less fur. Just an idea...

I have thought about
those gloves, especially now with 2 dogs. I'm going look on Chewy.com. Thanks.

I am so very happy for you. We had Goldens for many year and they are giant teddy bears. Then we downsized and went back to Cocker Spaniels. Sort of a shorter, long-haired version of the Goldens. The age of your puppy is just perfect for you. I read this somewhere a long time ago: "Goldens chew til they're 2 and shed til they're dead." Ours seemed to chew a bit longer, one even chewed a hole in the wall right through good sheet rock. She had lot of toys and other things to chew on, was basically never left alone and still just felt the need to eat the wall. At least it was fixable.
I wouldn't survive well without dogs. When my former rescue Cocker Spaniel finally wore out from age it was terrible being without a dog, especially her. This was My girl and not too fond of men. So when we went looking for a new dog we decided to get one for each of us. We ended up getting litter mates - brother and sister. Today is their second birthday. I may take a can of their food and sculpt it into a small cake for each of them. But considering how that stuff smells, and it great quality (peeee-uuuuu), I'm not sure how long I want to be messing with it.
I'm sure she'll take good care of you. One of my Goldens could sense when my blood sugars were getting low and she would start leaning on me and/or head for the kitchen looking back at me all the way. She was a special one.
Keep us posted on the progress,
Chutz

Animals sense things ...
Off topic, but my daughter lived home with her cat a while..she was a very affectionate cat..
But she would always curl up against any injury..she always knew just where it hurt..

Awww...she sounds like a sweetie. I love how pets always seem to have their own little "personalities." Enjoy your new little goldie. Pets are good company.
