Hi Sherrine: Those are all good points not only to keep in mind now, but every time we consider using a supplement.
A few years ago I was having issues with sleep. I bought some OTC melatonin and it did help somewhat with my sleep. I did discontinue it after a while.
Not long ago, I came across some posts saying (evidently long-term use of) melatonin can cause severe diarrhea. Several of the posters said they were having difficulty making it stop. Nowhere had I read anything like that about this supplement!
We have to become our best allies and research everything. And, like you said, asking a doctor is a good idea, though they can sometimes be wrong.
Good idea to keep a list of the meds you take and the dose per day and mgs.
I pretty much keep my daily vitamins to a minimum these days. So many reasons why!
