Hi James. I have always had hypersensitive hearing, but not to the extreme that you seem to have it. I have always been bothered by noise and that was a big problem in college, etc. Now I live out in the country and I can sleep better, but I wake up with the slightest noise.
I wonder if you've talked with an ENT doc about this first?
I, too, have had tinnitus for a long time. I can take my pulse without feeling for my pulse! It used to drive me wacky.......maybe I've gotten more used to it and can ignore it.
Even though I live in a rural area, if our neighbor rides his motocross motorcycle through his woods, it makes me crazy. I'm not sure if it's because it invades my personal space or I hyperfocus on it, or what.
I think most of us here have hypersensitive systems. In some situations, it's an asset........but in others, it's a real pain in the butt!
So, I would see an ENT first, and if all is okay there, I might think about it being a hyper-focus problem, which certain antidepressants might help with. I know when I got on one years ago, I didn't seem to be as offended by sounds. Good luck James!
P.S. Have you been tested for Lyme?
