My internist, who’s also a board certified lipidologist, has a weight loss clinic as part of her practice. Over the years I gained so much weight from prednisone and inactivity, so after having tried every diet under the sun, I started consulting with her nutritionist.
The amazing side effect of this diet is that my Fibro has improved so much! I cant identify all the foods that have given me problems but sugar is at the top of the list.
I’m on what I call a stripped down version of the keto diet, or a basic high protein diet where I’m supposed to eat only protein and vegetables. No sugar, flour, grains, potatoes, carbs, and no fruit. That’s the hard one. But supposedly when I’ve lost all of my weight, I’ll be able to add in some fruits etc. she wants me to consume a max of 40 carbs a day.
It sounds awful, I know, but it’s like a miracle to feel so much better. I still depend on my hot baths, pain meds (though fewer) and have limited energy.
My Fibro is probably 50% what it was pre-diet, and it’s wonderful to be getting back to my pre-lupus weight.
