Good Morning Everyone, I am new to this group, but not to pain. I was diagnosed for Fibro close to 10 years ago. My GP Dr. was very progressive and I was so upset when she retired at an early age. I have had eleven major operations on all parts of my body, not to mention numerous "procedures". I have had five operations on my back with the latest one this past February. This one was to include a few more vertebrae in a cage. I had severe stenosis which between putting in the extra hardware of the cage and grinding out the stenosis took around four hours on the table. This latest operation seems to have left me with pain and much stiffness in my back and hip area.
I live in Iowa where they just recently included Chronic Pain in the allowed maladies for Medical Marijuana. I got my GP Dr. to sign the form and have now been on it for a week. I was pretty sure this would work as like so many of us Senior Citizens we have a grandson or daughter...…. and while this is no where near the strength or consistency that this prescription stuff is, it seems to be doing the trick. They tell you it takes a week to get into your system and by then you will know how well it covers the pain. My Insurance doesn't pay for it yet, but I take a little money out of my grocery money every week so it's not so much of a hit all at once.
I pushed hard to get off of what little Tramadol I was taking. I have a feeling from what I have seen on the TV, that the Drs. will be pushed hard to stop prescribing opioids. In the past my Dr. has assured me that I was not taking enough to cause any alarm, but he didn't say a word this time when I told him I wanted Marijuana. I consider myself very fortunate to have an alternative that I think will in the long run be better for me.
