Anyone tried Lyrica?

I've been having EXTREME joint and muscle stiffness. It's been suggested that I try Lyrica so I'm doing that.

The internet says the side effects I'm experiencing after 2 days, sleepiness and dizziness, MIGHT go away in 2.5 to 5 weeks. It also says Lyrica might be effective in 2 weeks.

Has anyone used Lyrica? What was your experience and did it help? Would love some help in what to expect from this med.

I haven’t personally taken Lyrica but many of the members have tried it and many stopped taking it because they put on a lot of weight...40 pounds...so they got off it. It might not do this to you but I wanted to give you a heads up.

I had extreme muscle stiffness and pain and Robaxin (methocarbamol) made a significant difference in my pain. It’s a muscle relaxer that has been around for decades so it’s tried and true. It is used for ankylosing spondylitis also, which is an extremely painful problem. And of course I use ibuprofen with food and lots of vitamin D3.

I hope Lyrica works well for you. Some have taken Savella and that was helpful and didn’t put on all the weight.

Hi GreenBeans: I tried Lyrica a few years ago, but unfortunately I couldn't tolerate it. As I recall, I had an odd reaction with unusual stiffness. Everyone is different, but this was my experience.

Thanks, I'm aware of the possible weight gain. I'm monitoring my food intake carefully and drinking lots of water. If I start gaining I'll know it right away with daily weighing.

Thanks for the idea of a muscle relaxer. That sounds like a much better option than the Lyrica -- it seems more "big gun" with many more side effects than I realized before I started this trial.

Just completed my first 48 hours. Lots and lots of sleeping and a little dizziness. Maybe some change in stiffness, hard to tell as my lower back flared up for who-know-why.

I take the 500 mg dose. The script said to take 2 tablets every six hours. Well, I didn’t want to get sleepy because I need to drive my car. So I took one tablet every six hours and it helped. As I continued to use it I was getting better and better so I backed down to one tablet every eight hours. Now I only take one tablet every 12 hours__before breakfast and before dinner. I take ibuprofen at the same time because I will be eating right after taking the pills.

This has worked wonders for me. Before the Robaxin I barely could walk. I needed two canes to walk and I wasn’t eating or drinking much so I would t have to walk to the bathroom! I was in abject misery. Well...not anymore!

Wow, 500mg seems like a lot. My script is 75mg twice a day. This is the third day, and I'm wide awake. The first two days I couldn't wake up. I do think I feel better! Oh, wait -- you mean 500mg of Robaxin, not Lyria.

My issues were stiffness, not really pain. I'm continuing the experiment with Lyrica for now.

500 mg of Robaxin isn’t a lot plus it’s a scored tablet so it’s easy to cut in half if you wanted to.

Day 4 of Lyrica, 75mg 2x daily. The excessive sleepiness has passed. Last 2 days I've woken up early, and instead of wanting to snuggle in I had too much energy and had to get up. Have been getting things done at a rate I haven't been able to do for a long time. Not nearly so much joint/muscle stiffness, relatively pain free. Some pain in my knees (recovering from meniscus tear) and hip (recovering from bursitis), but not that very low overall pain/stiffness I had. We shall see what the future brings!
