Any new Fibro treatments?

Hello,

I haven’t been here in quite some time. I’m a 38 year old male and I’ve been dealing with Fibro for about 9 years now. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any new medications or treatments I may have missed. Here is what I’ve tried so far and the results for me personally.

Diet and exercise - Hard to do, especially exercise but ultimately it’s worth the effort.

Cymbalta (SSRI)- Made me worse while I was taking it

Lyrica- No change

Pregabalin- No change

Low does Naltrexone- No change

Testosterone replacement therapy- Very helpful for both pain and fatigue. Unfortunately it’s been causing my blood pressure to be high so I’ll be stopping it soon.

Welbutrin (SDRI) - More helpful than I expected since it’s not really thought of as a Fibro med, and it helps with depression of course. Might be worth a shot for anyone who has a bad reaction to SSRIs like I do.

Kratom- Honestly this was the biggest shocker. It’s very effective in treating pain and fatigue. It was extremely helpful for me. The problem is it’s an herbal supplement and therefore not regulated the same way as medications. I’d like to wait until there are some more studies on the long term effects of using it regularly first.

Low does Ketamine- I have yet to try this. This is a relatively new treatment for depression, PTSD and chronic pain. Clinics have been popping up left and right recently. Unfortunately it is very expensive and I’m on disability so.. But I’m going to save a little every month then maybe I can try it in a year or two.

So there you have it. I feel like I’ve tried everything, but if there is something I’ve missed I’d bet you all would know.

Hi, Akkami! I never used any of what you have tried. What works for one with fibro doesn’t necessarily work for another. But I’ll share what has helped me a lot.

I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, vitamin D3, magnesium malate, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin (methocarbamol) that had made a significant difference in my pain. My script had me taking 500 mg tablets. I was to take two tablets four times a day but I started out taking one tablet four times a day and it really helped me. As I continued to take this, the pain got less and less so I backed down on the medication. I now take one tablet before breakfast and one before dinner and it keeps everything under control. For me, this and ibuprofen are wonder drugs.

There is info about the vitamin D3 and magnesium Malate in Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.

Yes I forgot to mention I do also take magnesium and D3 daily.

Hi all. I have a really good RA doc. Although I do not have RA, I have fibromyalgia. She prescribed hydroxychloraquin. I hope I spelled that right. It’s the med Trump took for COVID. She said it would take 4 to 6 months to see a difference. I started seeing decent results in just about a month. She said they were having good results treating fibromyalgia with it. I would definitely say give it a try. I see a better quality of life and I have been on the chronic pain forum for over 10 years. Good luck.

Not surprising its killing stuff which may be the root cause of your "fibro" pain and its a strong anti inflammatory. Hydroxychloraquin is commonly used to treat tick borne infections.

Gabapentin is another drug that has helped with Fibromyalgia. I take it for RLS, and have no side effects.

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) has helped me a lot with the pain.
