I'm learning something interesting that might be relevant to many of us.
Recently, my depression, pain and fatigue got a lot worse. My old doc quit so I had to wait awhile to get into a new one. I would have had to wait several more months, but she had a cancellation. She drew a lot of the normal labs. But....she did also draw a Ferritin level and also a Total iron binding capacity level.
My Ferritin was low and my total iron binding capacity was high. With these two combinations of labs, it showed that I have "hypoferritinemia". This means my ferritin is low, but I don't have anemia and my Hemoglobin, etc., are normal.
Apparently this "disorder" has only recently been noticed.
But if you search it online, you'll see that oftentimes it has the symptoms of other problems....rather than anemia. One of which is.........Fibromyalgia.
I can't explain exactly what ferritin does. It's sort of complicated and my brain isn't working well (maybe because of this affliction???) Anyhow.....I encourage all of you to do a search for this. I would stick to very reputable sites. For the last few years, those two blood tests were never done for me.
I'm now taking iron supplements (I would have NEVER thought I needed that!). Unfortunately, it takes awhile to feel the impact of the supplements......but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will help with a number of my problems.
Anyhow......I wanted to mention this to you all, so maybe when you have labs drawn, you can ask the doc to draw these 2 labs.
I'm always hoping for some help with the various, weird problems I have, and hopefully this might help.

Hi Cathy: Thanks for that info! I hadn't heard anything like that before. I'm going to make a note of it and check with my doctor next time I see her. Good to know!
And you're right--we can get some weird things going on with fibromyalgia--things even many doctors have never considered.
I'm glad you are one who "covers all the bases." The more we can learn about
this medical condition, the better.
Thanks again for sharing! Hope you're feeling as well as possible.

You're welcome.
Feel better!
