Has anyone done short term disability for 6 weeks or so then went back to work

I'm just curuious I'm going to my Dr today and I origionally thought I could be out on a part time basis, but it doesn't matter if its full or part time 6 weeks starts and ends at the same time. I just wondered how beneficial it was???

Hello Hopegirl, yes i have been taken off work a couple of times, one was last fall for 4 weeks and one was this year for 5 weeks for being so worn out. I have short term disabilty from work so that helps although if I am off to long then it all goes back to the ins.company to pay for long term so then i get nothing.

I see my Dr. Friday for the same reason as i am in sucha flare up and i am so tired i really have a hard time getting through the day. Yes for me it was beneficial, not money wise, but health wise yes.

Hi Hopegirl,

I took the months of November and December off primarily for my fibro (that was 2 years ago). I had to do it----I was newly diagnosed with the fibro, plus my husband had just had prostate cancer surgery. It was difficult going back to work in January (I was teaching), and somehow I muddled through the rest of the school year. I certainly wasn't at my best. I've since retired from teaching (and I'm 53).

Monday was my last day, I could not take it anymore. I get short term along with FMLA so I should be good for awhile.

I am currently on a 6 week leave I'm a nurse and all my meds stopped working and could not get through the day anymore. I'm worried about going back even though I'm iff another 5 weeks still. If you feel it's something you need do it. I'm so glad I did.

Hi New Kid,

I was the origionator of this post, I was out on short term leave 3 times between 2008 and 2011. I think it cost me my job at the end, but I'm working again now, as a temp, so far so good. There are days when I wish I was home resting. I've found that when I was out on unemployment for 2 years, my aches and pains were worse. I was much more depressed. I think that if you have a chance to take some time off, do it and see how you fee.
