fibromyalgia-Pain always symmetrical on both sides-anyone else?????

hi! I have had fibromyalgia for several years and no matter where the unusual pains and aches hit, they are always symmetrical on both sides of the body. They flare up at the exact same time and when they are finally ready to diminish, that too happens on both sides at the same time. Always,always on both sides.Just wondering if anyone else experiences this? It's so bizarre! VIEW IMAGEpookey

sure do, its very strange cant understand it at all Ive never told my doc because im worried he will think im imagining it but im not

Hi all..

Don't stress of this. When fibro is diagnosed the pain must be 'bilateral' which means on both sides of the body, plus in both the upper and lower half. So I don't think your doc would think you too weird...just my opinion here.

For me it hits different areas at differnent times never usually opposite sides at the same time.

Hi Pookey and welcome. That is the classic symptom of fibro having pain on both sides. Strange huh???

 

Read the fibro 101 thread it has a list of fibro symptoms and a lot more good info, it's the second thread on first page.

Hi, Pookey, and welcome to the forum!  I'm glad you joined us!  I, too, have pain on both sides of my body.  But, sometimes one foot will hurt and the other won't but both shoulders hurt and both hands, etc.  Hey, pain is pain to me.  I know rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed if the joint inflammation is symetrical.  That is an autoimmune problem and I have a feeling that fibro is, too.  The doctors just don't know a lot about it yet...but they are working on it.

 

As Marlee said, read the Fibro 101 thread.  You will find the symptoms of fibro in there and you probably will see yourself more clearly.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.  We are here to help one another and we have some really great people on this forum!  Hope to hear more from you soon.

thanx for all the feed back. It's so comforting to have located this site! Nice to know I'm not alone! Just met with my doctor again yesterday. He is increasing my cymbalta from 60mg to 90mg to see if that helps. I was on vicoprofen for 2 years for pain and discontinued it about 4 months ago. Got into a great exercise routine and low carb diet and felt great. Well, sure enough the pains have crept back into my life. Need to take something for this pain! Have tried lyrica but broke out in a horrible rash. Rheumatologist insists that I need to give up my job because it is triggering my flare ups. I work 3rd shift awake 3 times per week. I try to come home and get a few hours of sleep in but it's not the same. It's now causing me to wake up all hours of the night even when I am not working. I work this shift so I can be home for my children. Next year they both will be in school all day so I can switch to a first shift job. Bottom line is, I don't think I can continue working overnights until then if this is contributing to my fibromyalgia flare ups. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thanx, Pookey

HI Pookey,

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I have pain on both sides and sometimes on one side, so either way it is fibromyalgia pain.

I hope that your pain subsides soon.

And as mentioned above, there is a lot of info on the fibro 101 thread.
