NORSPAN PATCHES NOT WORKING

mad  has anyone else had the experience of being on norspan patches and they stop working.I am in absolute fibro agaony,the patches,5mg a week,have slowly stopped woring in the last four weeks and i dont know what to do.I have rung the pain clinic trying to get help,but they dont ring back,so desperate tonight i put on another as they come in 10mgs but am scared now,anyone have any advice,thanks Julia in oz

Hi Julia,

First of all I would like to welcome you to HealingWell. I think that you have come to a good place here. Though I don't know anything about Norspan patches, are they a narcotic? But it seems to me if they aren't working, the next step would be to increase as you did. Or to try something different. I have used lidoderm patches, but they are lidocaine and not narcotic. So I am sorry for not having any answers, hopefully somebody else will be able to give you some better advice.

Hi, Julia, and welcome!  I'm glad you joined us!  I have never heard of the Norspan patch, either.  I can't believe the pain clinic never returned your calls.  If it's close to you, I'd head over there and talk to them in person.  No one should be in that much pain. 

 

Do  you have a primary care doctor that takes care of you?  You might want to talk to them, too.  Sounds like you could use help. 

 

Let us know what you do.  We really do care.  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Thanks for the welcome and replies.Hell of a couple of days,the town is 40 mins away as i live in a rainforest,my husband has a back problem as well.The pain clinic are going to ring me on Monday and after a lot of crying and some yelling i got onto my doctor,harder than getting God on the phone.She is great she has lots of people protecting her time.I am taking panadeine forte and the extra patch,hopefully something will help a bit,i need some sleep.
I have had CFS 25 years and Fibro for 10,at least with CFS i slept 20 hours a day and had no pain,very down fed up and upset at the moment.
I am nearly 50 and missed my 20's 30's and 40's being ill yah.!!!!regards julia who makes stuff.

I use the Fentanyl Patch. I was started on 25mcg, after 1yr I was bumped up to 50mcg. I cannot go any higher. My body will not tolerate it. I use oxycodone for breakthrough pain. Several mths ago I stopped using the patches becuase I didn't think they were working anymore. I was able to saty off for 1 mth. I had no choice but to go abck on I found out they were indeed helping me. I don't know why, but I guess we forget the full extent of the pain when it is being treated. We (I) need a reminder from time to time.

I have been on nosrspan patch just over year, although I dont think they are working as well as before I think they still work I know if I went off I would prob be surprised how well they work still.  I read somewhere they can last up to 8 years though I cant imagine that welcome Im on 10mg by the way.  see ya  suez2 :-) :-) :-)

Hey Suez2 i will keep in touch yeah another aussie. hey parrotperson,thanks but i didnt need this reminder i tell you.lol,bit dopey today 2nd patch must have kicked in,seems i have a choice off my face or pain,oh well off my face usually fades. about 4 weeks ago i tried to fly to Uk,not alone on a plane lol,got real ill and offed at bangkok,serious high temps and impacted sinus from air con under pressure.Very traumatic and got home after 2 days,on 3 lots antibiotics,the crash,maybe it was too much for 5mgs certainly was too much for me lol.thanks everyone julia
