I know this isn't fibro related (or maybe it is; who knows? lol), but do you do anything specific to try to prevent kidney stones?

 

I've had one lithotripsy and one sugrical removal, but I've not had much success at prevention.  Not a fun problem to have.  shakehead

From what the uroligist told me There is not a lot that I can do. to prevent them There is a huge list of food that I am not suppose to have
Dairy broccli fruit juices grapes cranberries Ect... He said that there is no way I can avoid eating all on the list the health benifits out way the risk. I always thought cranberry was good for kidneys he said only for some people.. I drink at least 6 glasses of water a day and probally 8-10 glasses of other stuff.. When I go Pee I try to make sure it is clear..

I have had two kidney stone surgeries, one with the big side cut and one with the basket retrieval from the ureter. This was 28 and 25 years ago. I make big, huge 2.5 cm. calcium oxalate stones. My urologist told me he would take out stones as long as I made them.... (sigh!) I found a nephrologist who put me on a low dose (25mg) of hydrochlorothyazide daily because one of the side effects of this med is it causes you to retain calcium in the blood stream and doesn't cause it to spill over into the urine.

The only stone I've had since then was a year after he cut the dosage to 12.5mg. Other than that it's been great. Both of my brothers are on the same regimen after I told them about it and they talked to their docs. IF you have calcium oxalate stones this may work for you.

Uric acid stones are different and they require a different med. I believe it's the same med that is used for Gout prevention... can't remember. Hope this helps someone.

I've also taken HCTZ (I also have calcium oxalate stones) but have had so much trouble with dry eyes and mouth that I've stopped for awhile.  The treatment for one problem always seems to cause another, but maybe it's time to try again.  rolleyes

Doc told me that the dry eye/mouth thing was related to fibro... who knows? I use eyedrops daily and drink a lot of water... "If it ain't one thing it's t'other!" eyes
