Using a heating pad with lidoderm patches

Does anyone know for a fact iF you can use both of these together? I called 2 different pharmacists and received to different answers. One said I should not and the other said they did not see where it would hurt....

eyes Does anyone know?!

Hi andlovsaidno,

My physician knows that I use Lidoderm patches and a heating pad together. He said it was OK.

I have been using both now for several months without any negative side effects. As an RN, I am hyperaware of what I use and how.

Hi aux and andlovsaidno and welcome. I've been using lidoderm patches for years and never thought about it but I'm sure I've used them with a heating pad. I only use one at a time.

 

I'm glad you both joined us. This is a great forum to learn about fibro. Read the fibro 101 thread, second on first page, there is a lot of great info in it. Ask questions and we will try our best to help you.

If I might share, one thing that I have learned is to NOT use a heating pad along with over-the-counter menthol based pain patches. That produces deep, horrible blisters.

I used the Lidoderm patch around my neck area because I slept on it wrong. Well, 4 days later and it is still stinging because I used with a heating pad. I looked up the pharmaceutical website and found this info:

External Heat Sources: Placement of external heat sources, such as heating pads or electric blankets, over LIDODERM (lidocaine patch 5%) patches is not recommended as this has not been evaluated and may increase plasma lidocaine levels.
