my tooth

It broke Tuesday. I called the dentist, then Tuesday evening she called back and said she coudl take me on Wednesday, woohoo! I was so relieved. I had a very sharp piece that was very tender, I didn't know how long I coudl go without gettign it fixed, my mouth was so sensitive. So I called work Tuesday and canceled my shift for Wednesday night; the manager said no problem.

Wednesday mornign the sharp piece fell out, and with it the pain! ok, I guess things are looking up. I go to the dentist, she freezes me to prepare for a filling, but the freezing doesn't take. I have a deep cavity there that she thinks is up to the nerve, and that is why it's so sensitive when she touches in there. I had a filling that fell out when the tooth broke. So she rescheduled for the end of December, when she has a 2 hour opening to do a root canal. I am so scared. I knwo she said it won't hurt, but I have a hard time believing that the freezing will take. And what if there are complications? sigh. And this will be so expensive... dh's insurance will cover most of the root canal, but only 1/2 of the crown that she said I'll need to cover the filling. There is so much of my tooth gone, a filling only won't last long.

Then when I got home, the new GM, who can be a real nightmare, had called looking for me! So I called back, and explained that I had called in sick. I still don't know if I'm in trouble or not. Not that he has reason to, but if he's mad, he can make my life miserable. And I lost out on my tips for last night for no reason really, since my tooth still isn't fixed. And we really coudl have used that money, as 2ds outgrew his snowsuit from last year.

I guess hte good news is it's not sensitive anymore, unless I get cold into the cavity. The dentist said I probably had a hairline fracture in the tooth, that's why it was so sensitive before. Just putting a toothbrush against it used to hurt. At least that is one pain gone!

The one good thing out of all of this is that you aren't in pain, anymore.  I understand that you are nervous about getting the root canal.  I used to have the worst "dental anxiety" (due to something that happened to me at the dentist when I was a child).  I would sit in that chair and cry like a 2 year old!

 

If it helps, I have had at least 10 root canals and 5 crowns.  As long as they give you an Rx for pain meds, you should be fine.  If you are worried about not getting numb enough, can you find out if they have nitrous oxide?  Or, maybe they can give you something for anxiety.  A lot of dentists are doing that these days.

 

Anyway, I hope everything works out for you.  I know how scary (and expensive) things can be.  Keep us posted!

Mamanan I've had root canals and they really aren't that bad, better than a tooth ache.

 

I don't know about up there but around here thrift stores are the in thing. Not only cause of the economy but to recycle. They have stores just for childrens things. My future DIL was trying to find pants for her 5 yr old son and I told her she wouldn't find anything decent for a five yr old boy cause they wear their clothes out.
