Has Anyone with Fibro had weight loss surgery?

 

 

I just wondered if anyone has had either lap band or gastric bypass surgery. If so do you feel that the weight loss has helped your fibromyalgia?

I had a hysterectomy in 2000. When i was going into the surgical suite I emphasized that I had Fibromyalgia. When I was coming out after the surgery, I was screaming in pain and this somewhat older nurse was standing over me yelling "ÿou have to relax your muscles, you are creating your own pain by tensing up".I tried to explain to her I had no control over the muscles, they were reacting to the stressors my body had been put through. They should have given me a shot of valium along with whatever pain meds they were hitting me up with, that only made me nauseous.See if you can find a surgeon who understands Fibro.

Monica I don't know about having it done with fibro but one of my DILs had gastric bypass a year and a half ago and has lost 163 lbs and is like a new person. She did not qualify for the lap band. She had to go through a program before her ins would pay for it. I guess to prove she couldn't lose it on her own. I would go for the lap band if you can it is much safer and less invasive.

 

By all means make sure the surgical team knows about fibro. Tyno did you have the strength to raise an arm to smack her???

 

I have not had to have surgery since getting fibro.
