Lyrica-Anyone else have this side effect???

Hi everyone! I have been having really swollen ankles and feet and have been taking Lyrica for about 4 and a half months now.  I know this can be a side effect. Is anyone else having this problem? I know I should see my doctor, but I am really afraid he will make me stop taking the medicine. Lyrica is the only thing I have found that takes away the deep burning nerve pain in my back and neck. But, I am worried about the swelling. Is this something that I should be concerned about? Thanks for your input.

I am on Lyrica as well, and I haven't noticed this side-effect. I know that with fibro, swollen ankles can be a problem for some. I would talk to your doctor. Share your concerns. He may have something you can do for your swollen ankles. This isn't something you should keep from your doc, though. It could become a serious side-effect that can be worse than dealing with the pain that comes without taking it. I will keep you in my thoughts. I wish you the best. Just hang in there, and please mention this to your doctor. Share your fears with him/her. That is what that person is there for.

I had the same problem when I started Lyrica and I talked to my doc. I too was terrified he would take me off the Lyrica and I had been in horrible pain for so long without it. My doc put me on a mild water pill and I have to put my feet up,raise them higher then my heart when they swell bad. I dont usually swell alot unless I have been on my feet too long specially in the hot weather. I have now been on the Lyrica for almost a year and its working out fine as long as I do what I am supposed to when I swell..........also watch the salty foods that makes it worse.

I was on it for 5 days i swelled up awful doctor took me off it and said that a lot of people do that on it Deb

I was on it a short time back in April and my hands swelled so much I couldn't type or hold a pen...so I couldn't do my job AT ALL. So I went off it, but then the headaches came back with a vengeange and I decided it's all a matter of juggling symptoms...so I went back on it this fall and it's been ok. But I do get very bad swelling in my hands in the morning, then the rest of the day they're just painful. But my feel swell something awful by about 2 pm in the afternoon, and my knees as well.

It's a trade-off. I told my dr. about it but so far I'm coping with the swelling cuz it really does help the pain.

I'm new here and have had Fibro for the past 6 yrs. My feet and ankles started swelling over 1yr ago. It is a major Pain. I wear alot of Crocks so when I feel like my feet are swelling I can get some relief quick. By slipping them free of shoes.
I am on no Medicine , Medicaid was canceled over yr ago. I have all pressure points ,Plus other issues. And getting worse daily ,So Far holding my job. But the Pain is un-real....All the time.

I  had the same side effects when I took Lyica.  The dr. said I cannot take it.  So check with your dr. you may not be able to take it either.

Welcome Iodine. I am sorry to hear that your medicaid was canceled and that you are going through all of this without medication. I don't know what I would do without my meds. I would probably fall apart competely. Where are you from? I know that in some states, you can be on disability medicaid without being on actual disability. I have a few friends who are on that, and I am going to try to switch mine over to that so I can get better meds. I would look into that if I were you. I wish you luck.

What does everyone take for pain?? tramacet I have never heard of this... I was taking oxycodone for a while and it seemed tohelp but the Dr. said it really wouldn't help over the long haul so I can't ake that but need something..The Ibprofen, alieve, tylenol etc. doesnt do the trick

Tramacet is "tramadon" + acetaminophen (Tylenol). It works well for me, and doesn't have the side-effects of T3s (codeine). Ask your doctor about it. Tramadon comes in a time-released formula which my dr. is going to try with me next.

I couldn't take Lyrica at all. I tried last summer, but the side effects were horrible.

I take lortabs for the pain. I am actually on a lot of different meds.
