It is getting cold here, so I fixed my keys so I could separate them and warm up my car and lock the front door at the same time. 

So  . . . the first time I tried this, I go out front and start up the car.  When I am shutting the door, I think, "oh, I better lock it so no one drives off with my car while I am in the house." so . . .  with the door key in the ignition and the car running, I efficiently lock the car and go inside.  Then I get everything ready, set the alarm and lock the front door, only to find out I cannot get into the car because my keys are inside it in the ignition!!!  Fortunately we have a spare key in the house, so I have to deactivate the alarm, search for the spare key, open the car, relock the house, . . .

Sheesh!

How did you lock the house?

I've locked my keys in a running car before and had to phone AAA to break into it...

Hey Sue...sounds familiar.  I have locked my keys in the car because I can't seem to get it through my head that after 15 seconds the doors lock if the car is running, or going more than 15 MPH.  My best fibro moment with a vehicle was jamming the house key into the ignition...they are not even remotely similar.  The tip of the key broke off and we had to have the entire ignition repalced.  You gotta admit...it's never boring!

Oh I was very clever.  wink I have this thingy that can separate my keys into two bunches.  My house key is on one and the car key is on the other.  So I gathered up all my stuff, locked the house and then realized I could not get into the car!!!

One time I unlocked the car, threw my keys on the seat and then locked and shut the door!! 

I have a combination locked hideakey because of that.  Last time it took me a minute to remember the combination

That's why I have a set in my purse, one in the house, & one hidden outside on our deck!

Boy some of the things that happen because of fibrofog. I guess we have to slow down and pay more attention to what we are doing. Luckily I haven't done this yet, but my husband has and he doesn't have fibro. What is his excuse?

I locked my middle son in the car in the blazing heat when he was a baby. Back then it was easy to unlock cars with a clothes hanger and the neighbor got it unlocked pretty quick.

 

I locked both sets of keys in the car while on vacation one year and we had to have a locksmith open it.

 

I carry the extra set in my purse cause I know someday I will lock the keys in the car. Okay, my keys have a thing in them that the car recognizes can you have those copied in case I ever lock my purse in the car too???

I went to the grocery store, did a week's worth of shopping, including popsicles and ice cream, loaded the food in the trunk (and my keys unbeknownst to me) and slammed the trunk shut.  I knew immediately what I had done.  I had to go in the store and ask someone to call my daughter since I can't hear on a phone.  I stayed in the store because it was about 90 degrees out and I could "hear" my frozen food thawing in my trunk!  mad    One of the check-out girls bought me one of those plastic key holders that look like springs.  I put my keys on my wrist now, like a bracelet, whenever I take them out of my purse.  This keeps me from locking them in the car.

 

I travel with a group of seniors.  We left on a day trip at 9 AM and didn't get back until 6 PM.  One gentleman had locked his keys in the car, with the car running....for 9 hours!  smhair
