fibro and pregnancy

Within the next year my husband and I are hoping to be pregnant with our first child. I have a concern about my fibro though. Have any of you have fibro and been pregnant at the same time. Sometimes I wish my DD would have come later in life so I could experience pregnancy with this problem. I don't know if there are little to no meds I can take while I am pregnant. I just cant imagine giving up my hopes to have children because of this disease and the sheer pain it brings along without being able to take meds.

Hi!

Yes I had Fibro while pregnant. I continued taking my medicines because I needed them to be functional (including sleep medicines), and they were not known to be harmful to the baby. The baby was born perfectly healthy!

I did not notice an increase in my pain, if anything the pregnancy may have decreased it.
I was super tired though, the entire time, which may or may not be fibro.

Hi JoriGirl!

It's been a very long time since I was pregnant and luckily I didn't have fibro then but...2 people I know very well have been through pregnancy and fibro together and did very well. Something about the hormone shift during pregnancy seems to hold the pain at bay. Don't know why but for some reason most or all of the pain is gone. Once the baby is born it always seems to come back...the ones I know were within about 3-4 months.

katted, what medications did you continue to take? Right now I am on Ambien and UltramER. What did your dr's say about taking your meds while pregnant? I would love to continue my meds, I fear that without them I will be put under so much stress because of the pain I may cause the baby harm

If you are having anxiety about this, you should be able to set up a pre-pregnancy appointment with your OBGYN to discuss family planning and get the answers you need and want. Give them a call and see what their policy is.

I did. The first time through I just suffered - I didn't know what else to do. I had given up on my meds and I sciatica (?sp) issues that made it near impossible to walk. The second time round, I started working with a physical therapist right when I found out and he was able to help me keep moving and active which helped right throughout the pregnancy.

PS - 9 months isn't as long as is seems like it would be.
