Hi to all! I am sorry to have been gone so long. I HAVE thought and prayed for each and every one of you.
I had a really bad round of migraines, one after another after another. When we thought we had that stopped I got Cellulitis.
I wouldn't wish Cellulitis on the worst person in the world. I had a flu shot. I also have psoriatic arthritis, so I have some sores. Right nowon my right leg. Somehow bacteria got in and made me one sick puppy. First was a feeling like the flue, bu different. 2 days of being in a LOT of pain in my leg (plus migraines, of course) and the sore area was about
the size of my hand.
I made a doc appt the next day when I woke up and the sore area had spread to almost my entire thigh and knee! It spread that much in less than 12 hours! My dad took me to the doc as I was afraid to drive with my leg so sore. I managed to walk back to the docs exam room, and I was done. The doc came in, said (NOT PC, but VERY honest doc!), "My G-d! I have never seen you look this terrible! What is it??",
I pulled my dress up and showed her my leg - and she gasped. She used gloves and very gently felt for the lymph nodes in my groin. I almost went through the roof b/c they were so sore! They HAD NOT been sore at home less than an hour before when I took a shower!
She said that she had to make a call, then I was to go straight to admitting at the hospital. NOT ER, Thank Heaven!! I have some real problems with our ER staff - they are idiots.
Together the doc and I made a med list, and then I went to the hospital. Admitting was expedited and they got me into a room ASAP.
I LOVE the hospital doc, he was wonderful! Kind, gentle, straightforward, didn't treat me like an idiot, and put precautions into place immediately.
NO ONE was supposed to touch anything in the room with their bare hands. They all wore gowns and masks and gloves the first day. Then they let the masks go.
They managed to culture the bacteria from one of the psoriatic sores on my leg. I had a staph infection AND the flesh eating bacteria (necrotizing fascitis)!!!!!
I had 3 days of IV antibiotics that made my stomach so sick. They talked about
sending me home with the IV in and letting me do my own antibiotic infusions. BUT they discovered that the antibiotics were easily killed by oral antibiotics!! (No MRSA for me, for me! NO MRSA for me!)
So I stayed an extra day to make sure the oral antibiotics were working. At least they have cable tv in the hospital - we just have an antenna at home, LOL!
It was so hard when my kids visited me, i couldn't hug them or my mom or dad or hubby. No touching allowed. My dau did come spend a day with me, just sitting in my room, being with me. She is an amazing 13 yo, but she really wanted to see that her mom was safe and going to be OK.
MY mom came and really LOOKED at my home. She realized how depressed I have been - just so much stuff this last 18 months. She called my fav aunt (really friend of family but MY AUNT.) and my aunt flew to OK to help me. She and my mom have been cleaning the house and will continue to work on it for several more days. It is really a pit b/c I just haven't functioned. And dh works LONG hours.
So, now I am home, if I am good and rest my leg it is the same color as my other leg. If I am up too much it turns red again - a sign for me to get off my feet!
So that is my saga. Today is my last day of antibiotics, I see my doc on Monday for a followup, and I will keep you posted.
