I had to get a cane near the end of the summer (should have gotten it much earlier). I got a quad cane and it has been a god send. I have a small house, so in here I can use the back of a chair or a wall if I have a problem. I really use the cane when I go out. I have steps from my door to the walk, I feel so much better going up or down. I walk my dog so I need to be steady, it helps to get in and out of my car. Up and down curbs, and after I walk a bit, I use it to rest on to catch my breath. I have bad knees, hips, balance problems, SOB, etc. My shoulders are also a prob and sometimes I have to stop b/c my shoulders are strained.
I haven't had anyone give me a bug about using it, I wish I had started w/ it sooner. I held off b/c I didn't want comments, then I thought I would probably hear more comments if I landed on my ...face. This is one of those selfish things I do it b/c I need it, if someone has a problem w/ it, they need to growup.
You do what you have to do, this is your life to live. Life changes and we have to change w/ it. Keep walking and moving, you've seen the difference it has made w/ just one outing. Good for you!
God bless. Alice.
