If at all possible, see your PCP or Rheumy for pain. Sometimes they will call in a prescript
ion. I have been to the ER three times for pain. Every time I have been told the ER does not give pain meds beyond OTC meds. I also was made to feel like a junkie. The doctor finally saw me after four hours and gave me a script
for anti-inflamatories which cause my stomach and bowels to bleed. She seemed not to care one iota about
that. Naturally, I didn't bother to fill it. It was a total waste of time and a very bad experience, but this is Canada and they are much less likely to treat pain here. When I told some doctors about
the pain they were quite rude and told me to "toughen up", and that I was an addict. Not so nice when you're miserable to boot. I went home in tears (and pain). My PCP has been the most helpful, although now I am beginning to get weakness in my arms, dizziness, confusion, beyond normal fibro and will see a Rheumy eventually (I hope).
