Neurontin vs. Lyrica

My regular doctor prescribed Lyrica for me, and I tried it for a week...very tired.  :(  Went for a 2nd opinion, and was prescribed Neurontin.  Anyone have any opinions on either drug?  Is one better or worse??  Had any interference with your antidepressant? 

Startin' to feel really depressed about all this.  :(

Lyrica is actually a newer, slightly different formula, very similar to neurontin. It's possible that neither of them will work for you. Might be time to try switching up the SSRI, and perhaps try Prozac or Zoloft. Also, try to get at least ten minutes of uninterrupted sitting in the sunshine every day. That alone will help both your seratonin and vitamin D levels. Don't act like it's a treat. Act like it's a prescription that you MUST do and tell others that it's required if they bug you. If you feel up to walking while you are in the sun that is even better, but try to keep your fact to the light. This works very well for me and if I really don't have the time I use my Happy Lite for my mood boost. Just my 2ยข.

Thank you for your reply.  I spoke with my pharmacist, and decided to keep trying the Lyrica because it helps so much with the pain.  What you said about the sun is so true.   I feel so much better in the summer because I am outside every day that it isn't raining!  I love to garden and admire my flowers, so I'm out there as soon as possible.  This winter has been one of the hardest on me yet.  We've had a few warm days here, and I took advantage of them.  You mentioned a Happy Lite...is that a lamp for SAD?  Could you tell me about it?  (I've thought of going to the tanning bed, just to get some deep warmth and light!)

I take Lyrica and it really makes a huge difference with the pain. But it takes a while to get used to. I take 75 mg in the morning and 150 at night. The 150 helps me to sleep for sure. But the 75 in the morning doesn't really make me tired anymore. I didn't take it for a month when I had surgery and it has taken me a couple of weeks to get used to it again.
