Hello all.  I was diagnosed with Fibro a month and a half ago.  I first started showing symptoms 2 years ago after I was overdosed by a nurse when I was in the hospital with meningitis.  She didn't turn off my morphine after she put the fentenyl patch on me.  I was in a coma for 5 days.

 

3 months ago the pain and fatigue got really bad and I went on short term disability.  My PCP tried everything on me and them sent me to a Rhumetologist.  He immediately said Fibro.  He said I was an absolute classic case and started me on Lyrica.  It works but I feel high as a kite all the time. 

 

I'm having good days and bad.  Sometimes it's so bad I can't move and sometimes I can work an entire day. 

 

I'm trying a Gluten-Free diet (2 days so far) and I have an appointment with Dr St. Amand in Los Angeles in 2 weeks.  He uses a Guefenisen protocol. 

 

Anyways I live on Orange County, CA, married 9 years and I have a 4 year old daughter who is the love of my life!

Welcome Becky! I am still new to this forum myself, but I have found it and all of the people so wonderful! I hope you love this place as much as I do! :)

I live in L.A. too! I heard of Dr. St. Amand but I just can't grasp the Guafasien protocal. Doing a Non Gluten diet must be hard, more powere to ya. That overdose sounded horrible!

Hi, Becky, and welcome!  Wow!  I'm so sorry to hear about being overdosed.  You have to watch everything in hospitals.  When I was younger, I was scheduled for a D&C and was on the guerny, in the hallway, waiting for the operating room and they had given me a drug to relax me.  They came up to my guerny and one said to the other, "Is this the Caesarean section?"  The other guy said, "Yes" and started rolling me into the operating room!  Thank God I wasn't under the anesthesia and was able to get out the word, "NO!" 

 

You have come to a good place here.  Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibromyalgia there and you will learn a lot about this illness.

 

I'm so glad that you found us and joined in.  Read back post because there is a world of information in them too.  Also, ask questions.  We are here to help you.  I'm happy that you are here and I hope to hear more from you soon.

I too, wanted to say welcome to the Fibromyalgia Forum of Healing Well. We are so glad you joined us.

Like the others have said, this is a group of wonderful people who are all caring, knowledgeable and supportive. Please feel free to ask any questions or just vent about how you are feeling. That's what this forum is all about.

I hope your doctor's appointment goes well and that you come back and post about it. Let us get to know you and you can get to know us through the different threads here on the forum.

i'm new too and have fibro and OA. I have treid various diets too and found the best of them all was great but so strict i couldn't manage it. I do follow it as best i can but if i have something i'm not supposed to have i'ii just make it a very small amount.
It consisted of cutting out meat, dairy, caffeine, heavy gluten products, sugar and alcohol, there's not much left after that.
Really just veg, fruit, beans, water, herbal teas, salad and rice.
Doable but very hard. I lost too much weight and then the doc said i was worse as i had increased my muscle mass and why would i want that when i have a muscle problem. Go figure, i follow it loosely now.

Hi becky,

Welcome. I see that you have pseudotumor cerebri, so does my daughter. HOw is that coming along?

I have heard of people mentioning Armand's protocol but I know I would not last very long on it. It is too restrictive for me and so far, no cure for fibro has been found yet. In addition, I like to eat a wide variety of food.

Thanks everyone! Donnaeil my PTC/IH is actually doing ok. My nuero keeps pushing for a shunt but so far I have no eye damage and the diamox is keeping the excess fluid under control so I don't see any reason. I haven't had a nasty headache in a few months. The last one sent me to the ER where they did a spinal tap and I've been ok ever since. I do feel it if I over exert myself or have to bend over or cough...etc. but not on the level I was when I was diagnosed.

Unfortunately, my daughter lost her sight within 3 weeks. It came on fast. She has a VP shunt, no failures, and had the eye surgery. According to her doctor she still has healthy optic nerve left. In fact, at the 1 1/2 year mark, he said her eyesight had improved but she could not use it yet.

Initially she did not get the headaches but has gotten lots over the past year.

Furthermore, she notices that the better she cares for herself by eating well and exercising a lot, the better her vision.

She enters college this Fall and will take classes online. She spends her days on the net and talking to friends for free on Skyfe. She has handled this so much better than I did.

I am glad you are not affected that much anymore. Lrt it stay that way.
