I hate tunnels and bridges. I would lay on the floor of my parents' car when I was little to avoid looking out from the bridge, tunnels drove me crazy. We used to travel from south Jersey to north Jersey and also into NYC and NY state. Most of my family lived up north, so no matter what, we were up there every couple of wks. I have such fond memories of the Holland Tunnel and the Pulaski Skyway! NOT
My husband loves bridges (go figure) so he is always looking out to see if any boats/ships are passing. Yeah me! Yrs ago, he and I went down to VA after work on Friday night. We were going to spend the wk end roaming around VA & NC. Late on Fri night he showed me this bridge at a distance. I looked at the profile, LIGHTS, kept looking, NO LIGHTS, kept looking, LIGHTS. Whoa, what happened. This stupid bridge also had a tunnel as part of the fun. It is called the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I refused to go over it in the night. Two of my biggest fears in one happy bundle. Believe it or not, I haven't been down there since.
My last job was at a school a couple of towns away. I had to cross several bridges each day just to get there. I was very proud of myself, I did it each day - and not once did I close my eyes. I live by the river and the ocean, so everywhere I go, there is a bridge.
My family could never understand my fear of bridges or tunnels, but my father would always find a 'clean' bathroom for me when we crossed over.
God bless. Alice.
