Cymbalta--Has this happened to you?????

I recently visited a new doc(I really didn't like the one I was seeing)  He upped my Lyrica  which has helped alot, but he also wanted me to start cymbalta.  I waited the week of the upped Lyrica doses, like he said.  I took my first pill yesterday.  Just a little 30 mg pill.  I was cool with  it up until about 6:00 yesterday evening and I started having palpitations, panic attacks, rapid heart beats, and I sweated all night long.  i would wake up and be drenched.  It was horrible.  I am prone to panic attacks so I knew that's what they were.    I looked at the bottle and it said "delayed" release so I am assuming that it was the Cymbalta that made me feel like that.  has anyone else experienced this reaction to cymbalta?

I took Cymbalta the 30mg dose for three days. All three days, I had terrible nausea
and night sweats. It felt like I had the flu. Three days was all I could take.

I am now on Savella with no problems.

I am really surprised that the doctor would put you on both Lyrica and Cymbalta at the
same time. Call your doctor and tell him of your side effects.

I am on both Lyrica and Cymbalta at the same time and have no problems with either one.
I'm sorry that you have though. :(

Hi Missy,

I started out taking Cymbalta with my Gabapentin (a few yrs back know) and I didn't have any 'bad' side effects as what you are mentioning. However, when I had to switch to Effexor (cuz my insurance dropped covering Cymbalta) I had the same type of symptoms you are describing. It took a couple of days on Effexor b/4 I noticed any 'nasty' symptoms. So, again I switched to Pristiq which I like.

Btw, I had soaking night sweats yrs b/4 my diagnosis of FM. Oh, how I hated them. I am menopausal now, finally! I do notice that my heart races more when adding my 'heavier' pain meds.

Keep talking with your doc and I hope you can find a happy medium.

I was on cymbalta for abt a month..the first 2 weeks I rarely ate anything..and the 2 weeks after that I couldnt eat anything at all because of nausea and vomiting: i also lost 10 lbs. and i started having severe panic attacks. i called the doc immediately and went in to see him, he changed me to prozac, so thats what i take now.. havent had any side effects really, but its not helping at all. I jus doubled the dose from 20 to 40mg a few days ago... still nothing..

good luck, call your doctor and get it changed, thats what i did... take care

I was put on Cymbalta about a year and a half ago for depression. I took one 30mg pill and spent the next two days in bed, I was so sick. I couldn't stand because I felt like my body was vibrating in all the places where it wasn't numb. I don't remember if I was sweating, I lay in bed until the room stopped spinning. I called the prescriber and he told me not to take the second dose. At the time it was the only medication I was taking, though.

I remember that when I first started feeling funny I had a really bad panic attack, and although I've had some mild anxiety problems, the Cymbalta reaction was absolutely NOTHING like that, it was so bad. I've heard of other people having really bad reactions, too, and I felt like I wasn't appropriately warned about it. I hope you feel better soon and get your medications reconciled.

I am sorry you are having problems with your Meds. I really dis like side affects don;t you ?

 

I tried Cymbalta. but I'm one of those that can NOT take any anti Depressents , they make me depressed very bad.. Cymbalta was the worst for me . I took one pill and flushed the rest down the potty . LOL.. but really it made me have thoughts of ending it all... very scary nono

 

I have been on Lyrica for a year or so now.. max does... I am currectly weening myself off.. think its really not doing anything for me.. i think it did to start with but now. its just causing some side affects. my hands and feet swell. , Blurrred vision ( this does not last long but hard to deal with if I'm working ) and makes my hungrey all the time . since I dropped down I already have noticed I'm not starving anymore. ,,

 

like our other posters said .. Please do call your Doc. he needs to know the side affets.. I know most times it will ease up after the first week.. but still.. he needs to know. oK. turn

I've had serious panic/anxiety reactions to both Effexor and Celexa.  The reaction to Celexa lasted 3 agonizing days. I haven't tried Cymbalta, but I'm assuming I might possibly react the same way.  I've tried Zoloft too, and didn't have the panic/anxiety, but it had other side effects that I couldn't deal with.  For myself, I try to avoid all anti-depressants because I just don't tolerate them well.  I hope you find something that works for you.

Boy...I really wish doctors would consider side effects when they prescribe these meds, and start patients on these high doses.  I have been on Lexapro for a couple of years and took it upon myself to take tiny pieces of the pill at first and work my way up to the dosage he wanted me on.  I still had side effects..woke up the first night rooting around in the hubby's underwear drawer...then about an hour later found myself eating a tube of Oreo's.  It was scary.  At first it gave me lots of energy and I thought 'this is great'!  Then it stopped working as well and now I have blurred vision and a bunch of other things that I never had before I started it.  Weaning off???  OMG.  Brain zaps and swishing sensations in my head.  If I ever get off this crap I will never ever take another SSRI.  My advice to anyone considering taking these drugs is to only get a weeks worth and see how you react.  They are sooo expensive and there are many posts on this forum where people flush them down the toilet after finding out they can't make it through the 'adjustment' period.

Saying that...I know they have been lifesavers for some.  This is just my experience and opinion.

i have been on the max dosage of Cymbalta for years and while i do not have the symptoms you describe it does make me sweat profusely.
if its humid out forget it, i am literally a waterfall. its disguting but otherwise the cymbalta works for me.
i have tried 2 different meds to counteract the sweating bt neither have worked so i just suffer with it.

now that its summer in new england its pretty unbearable. ugh.

I've been taking Cymbalta (60mg at bedtime) for about 2 & 1/2 months, and have been lately wondering if it is the medication that is making me sweaty and occasionally nauseated. Before I was just on gabapentin and flexeril, then added Cymbalta. I get nauseated once or twice a day and sometimes "meet" my office's pregnant lady in the ladies room - I had to completely convince her I'm not expecting, too. This week my office is having 10-12 hr. meetings every day. My role as an admin is very active, with lots of running around. I've been having trouble regulating my temperature since our huge cold snap this past January, with icy cold, sopping-wet sweats (day or night, or both). So I've been totally gross. I actually had to use a paper towel on my face today while someone was presenting. I was so embarrassed when a lady asked if I was having 'The Change.'

[img] I too hate the sweating. It is like a waterfall coming from my head, that is where it seems to come from the most. I hated it when i was working, your hair ended up looking like you just came out of the shower. smhair But other than that it really has helped with my anxiety and depression.

I think the Cymbalta has really helped with my depression too. I've had depression for five or six years. I figured that if it makes me a little sweaty, and occasionally vomitous, it's a small price to pay to feel more even.
