My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed earlier this summer after months & months of doctors. She was put on cymbalta at the beginning because they said she was "depressed" & each doctor upped her dose. When she was finally diagnosed they upped it to 60mg 1x daily specifically for the FM. She has started to have side affects from it including loss of coordintaion, crying, sleeping all the time, freezing even when its 90 out, etc. We have decided to take her off it all together. There are tons of websites dedicated to getting off cymbalta & forums just for that as well. We have an apt w her FM doc this week but have started the weaning now. I'm worried that they will try to talk me into keeping her on a lower dose. We figure she's had FM for years & has been on cymbalta maybe 6 months. It hasn't done her any good, only worse.
She has an apt w a neurologist this month to see why a person her age would have FM.
We have spoken briefly w her school counselor who told me to come in during my daughters orientation & we'll talk about putting her on a 504 plan. I have been advised by friends to push for a IEP. We feel like we're swimming in mud against the tide all the time!
