This isn't the first time I have had a migraine, but this one is absolutely horrible. I feel like my head is splitting in two. I feel like my eyes are going to burst from my skull. It's hard to concentrate. It is just really really bad. What do you all do when you have a bad migraine?

Stay off the computer!! :)
Go in a dark room, take migraine meds or extra strength tylenol/excedrin migraine, bag of ice on your head and neck, close your eyes. Sleep.

if it's really bad go to the emergency room because it could be something other than a mig.
everyone is different because there are different genetic variations that cause migs. imitrex or one of the other triptans are the best. an nsaid plus caffeine can work well. ICE!!!!!!!!! bag of frozen peas in a`towel if u dont have an icepack. REST. lie down in a`dark quiet room. any physical activity will make it worse.

I would agree with beanley. My mom had migraines all the time. But when she had "the worst migraine of her life" and it hung on for several days, it turned out to be a brain aneurysm. If what normally helps you doesn't help you, go to the ER. Hopefully it is just a bad migraine, but at least maybe they can give you something to get you some relief.
Hope you feel better soon.

A friend explained that the blood vessels
open up and blood is pounding in your head. If you remember 7th grade science (I still remember the teacher's demonstration on a hot plate) - heat expands, cold contracts. That is why ice helps. I put ice on the back of my neck and turn out the lights and lie very still in the quiet. Oh, and take a maxalt.
Hope you feel better soon,

Sassy,
I used to get the same kind of migraines years ago, and I still get them (really rarely). This is what I do: I have a really soft (silk) eye/sleep mask that is very light on my face but takes care of the light without adding any pain to my face. It was $9 at a discount dept store chain. I also take Ibuprofen and Melatonin (its an OTC natural sleep aid, it is found in many foods including walnuts and is a natural relaxer) from the local chain drugstore that's $5 and its extended release. They relax me and the Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory so it takes care of my headache pain (even better than the prescript
ion of Darvocet that my neurologist gave me). This will sound crazy, but if I would get one at work where sleep isn't am option I would take 2 Pamprin (yep the kind for cramps!) and 2 Ibuprofen and I could make it until I got home. The Pamprin has a muscle relaxer in it. I am so sorry I know that feeling and it just plain stinks! Good luck and I hope it passes fast and the next one is years and years away.
Trish :)

Thanks for all the input. I have to get through today, and then I can see my doc tomorrow. I wish I could see him today. My pain is really severe today...I had a nightmare last night, and after that, I just could not get back to sleep very well. I kept tossing and turning, and my restless leg syndrome was acting up. The pain is so bad this morning, that I am tempted to go to the ER, except that I don't know what I would do with Alex (my son), and I don't have a car...So, if I decided to go, I would have to find a car and a sitter. With Medicaid, it is hard to go to the ER because they are really pissy about
what they cover. I feel like I am just going to have to suffer all day...my son has therapy this afternoon, so it really sucks that I am in so much pain. I am trying to do whatever I can to take my mind off of the pain, but it isn't working very well. I don't know what to do.

I used to get them so bad I could not stand any noise, we have found certain foods help, this may sound strange but when I first got them nothing was of any help then with a doctors help we worked out what would trigger them and what I could use to help make it bear able for me and my husband swears by this is a block of the good old chocolate. now my sister can not eat it or tomatoes because they trigger one straight away. For us we have different types of migraines in one the blood vessels expand in the other they contract. Well that is what the Doctors tell us.

I've gotten hormonal migrains for years, and sometimes caffeine helps--even 1 cup of coffee. I also seem to get cold when I get them, so I put on a sweater and whatever else I need to get warm. Hope you feel better soon--headaches are NOT fun! God bless.

Luvsminis, sometimes I get cold, but a lot of time when my head is throbbing I get hot. When the pain breaks, then I get cold, and start sweating. But it is such sweet relief.
Sue, I also take Maxalt (and then drink an icy Coke as well). It has been my miracle drug for about
5 years. Sometimes I have to take two.
