Hi obrian!
I'm so sorry that you're down and hurting badly. This is one of the central problems with fibro...it drains us totally. Most fibros have problems with fatigue and for some it's horrific. I take pain meds 24/7 so that adds to the problem of sleepiness but besides that I can fall asleep just sitting down for a minute or two. One thing I finally did was to ask my doctor if I could try a medication called Provigil. It's for treating people with narcolepsy, chronic fatigue and drug induced sleepiness. He was fine with that so I started taking it about a year ago and there is an amazing improvement. I don't fall asleep quiet as easily and I can drive without worrying myself and my hubby. If I do feel tired though I still don't drive. No way I want anything like that happening.
But you talked around a strange phenomenon...you keep going at work, get home and after a short time the pain sets in and you basically collapse. I'm not sure what mechanism is involved in this but we seem to be able to hold on as long as we desperately need to, then crash! And it's an awful feeling too.
Not sure if I helped at all but you might try asking your doc for Provigil or something similar.
