I am taking my daughter to the doctor on Wednesday to do a nutrition reponse test. Has anyone heard of this. Could it be a scam...

I would certainly do a LOT of research before I subjects my daughter or wallet to this practice. There is no scientific studies to show any benefits from this and it is more likely to misdiagnose people than anything. Below is a clip from one of the many articles I looked at. Most were all the same, except for the people who preform this procedure and take your money. You might want to take some time to think this over before going. Talk to a good medical doctor first, then make up your mind. For me I would never go for this but that's my personal choice. Will the test do harm? No, except that a missed diagnosis can be critical.

btw, Applied Kinesiology is the same as Nutritional Response testing.

Comparisons between kinesiologists, with standard biochemical tests, placebos, retests, and a computerized dynamometer to measure muscle strength, indicated that kinesiology is no more useful than random guessing to determine nutrient status. No well designed studies in reputable journals were found which validate the claims of applied kinesiology and its offshoots.

As an anecdotal antidote to many of the success stories offered to validate this practice consider this one. At a 1994 alternative health fair in North Carolina a woman was tested using muscle testing and found simply to have weakness in her kidneys. It should be noted that this woman has numerous serious health problem for which she receives treatment including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, fibromyalgia, insomnia, bursitis, irritable bowel syndrome, with a history of gall bladder disease (it was removed) and hysterectomy. This result could be attributed to the poor technique of the tester(s) but it should be noted that a highly accredited and experienced iridologist also missed everything.

Although it is good to proceed with caution, and you need to do that, it is also true that naturopathic care and nutrition, when applied correctly, have helped many people recover substantially from fibro. and other iillnesses. Naturopaths are medical doctors (been through medical school) who also receive natural training. I am unclear as to what type of practitioner you will be seeing though. Is it possible to let us know their title and what training they have had - is he or she a regular M.D.? N.D.? Holistic nutritional consultant? or something else...

I think it all comes back to the credentials and experience of the particular person you will be seeing. Did you check up on these things already or if not, could you call them now and do the checking before your visit? That way you you will be able to go in with greater confidence knowing you checked this person out well first and/or know what questions to ask when you get there, what to watch out for etc.

Just a couple other questions: Were you referred to them by your family physician? A friend? How did you hear about them? If you can share a few more details, it would help you, me and others here to possibly help you get a better idea in terms of any potential areas of concern to look out for as well as the benefits that you might expect from such a visit.

So maybe you could share a bit more about what exactly this visit/practioner's experience entails?

Just got back from the doctor(MD) and told him that my daugther is feeling worse. His words were it is in her head. I thought she was going to cry right then and there. I said since he does not know what it could be I need a referral to someone else. After talking for a while I did get one. We now wait for an appointment with the Neurologist. Meanwhile I have order the malic acid / magnesium supplement.
