He got the results of my MRI back already, it was just on Monday. That was a strange experience! anyway....

Seems I have a sinus infection. He said sinus infections don't usually present with all the facial pain I have been complaining of in the last 1 1/2 years, but it's a start. I did have a cold a few weeks ago where my nose was so plugged I coudln't breathe at all, so I don't know if this is chronic or acute. But I do remember a long time ago being told that my sinuses were unusually small.

So he said to do a sinus wash 4X/day for a few weeks and see if this helps. (yuck, really looking forward to that :P )
Wouldn't it be wonderful if I could finally get rid of this facial pain?
Hmmm, I do feel guilty about the expense of having an MRI to show a sinus infection though. Seems like overkill. It was all covered by OHIP, but I do feel bad about the drain on our resources.
So, I'll let you know how this goes! Wish me luck :)

Mamanan, that would be so wonderful!  Sinus problems can be horrible, but I don't have to tell you that.  I'll be praying that this is the answer.

 

Don't feel badly about the MRI.  You tried everything first.  I had an MRI when my hearing dropped off the face of the earth.  They wanted to check to see if I had a brain tumor.  I didn't so they didn't find a thing with my MRI.  It's good we have these tests but it's not good to take advantage of them.  You didn't and you probably found out what was going on with that terrible facial pain!  See...it could be as plain as the nose on your face!  Pun intended!  devil

Let's pray that is the whole problem. My DH has a large polyp in his sinus and has a constant infection, he is having it removed after  the holidays if I have to do it myself. He has been on many rounds of antibiotics and does the nasal wash, I have never watched him do it and don't care to, so it must not be that hard to do. I did get him the netty pot or whatever it is called which came with many packets of stuff you put in the water at Walmart. It has helped a lot but he is still having it removed. devil

Mamanan, I am glad the MRI found the source of your pain. Sinus infections really can get
nasty, now you are on the road to recovery and no more facial pain.... YIPPEE!

Mamanan, I'm glad you found out what was up. Don't feel too badly about the MRI, it was necessary. I also had to have an MRI and discovered I have small sinuses! I said that would be the only small thing on me, then.

I started using a Neti pot to wash out my sinuses with a tiny pinch of sea salt in warm water, a few times a day, and now do once a day before bed. That seems to have done the trick. I really recommend one. They are fun to get used to but just remember not to breathe in through your nose and you'll get it in no time. Good luck!

I really love my Neti Pot! I first saw it on the Oprah show and went out to buy one immediately! (My DH thinks I'm crazy because of my love for Oprah! LOL) Anyway, it really does work! I had a deviated septum corrected when I was 5 years old, and an ENT told me last year that I would benefit from having it again since my sinuses were always infected. Once I started using my Neti Pot, my sinuses have been pretty good! Maybe I can put off surgery for awhile longer!

Also, don't be humming when you do the sinus rinse. I often forget to breathe through my mouth. Most of the time it doesn't bother me at all anymore. I started when I got a cold and couldn't use my CPAP, so I couldn't sleep. Good luck. Diane

I'm sorry if I don't know your history. Don't you need antibiotics?
I've had 2 sinus surgeries. The problem with the sinuses is that you can sort of wall off the infection and it makes it harder to get rid of, without antibiotics and sometimes surgery. Did you see an ENT?
