The fibro has been getting worse, which I think is partly due to the cold.

Some of my muscle pain feels similar to being scalded with hot water---

Anyone else experience this?

Yes, the burning pain is pretty common.  And you are right.  It probably is due to the cold.  Don't think you are getting worse.  You are just having some flare problems because of this horrid weather we are having.  When the weather breaks, you should start to feel better.  It might be a gradual improvement, but I do think you will feel better soon.

Thanks Sherrine, I hope you're right!!! I feel I have been getting worse over the last 6 months---generally hurting more all over, literally from head to toe!!

It's now 22 outside ---it is supposed to gradually warm up to where it's supposed to be by the end of the week--70 (I'm in the Tampa area).

Thank you again for responding. Hope that you're staying warm and as pain free as possible.

Yankee Girl, I'm in the Tampa area too and, yes, I'm freezing!  My heat pump wasn't designed for this weather and I can't get the inside of my home more than 65 degrees!  Brrrrr.....this is why I left the frozen north!

Yankee girl, I'm certainly not making light of your pain, but I had to read your thread subject 3-4 times because I kept reading it as "I like being scalded." And I thought the topic was going to be about liking hot showers. I'm really gonna blame that one on fog. :)

I'm having a lot of burning pain right now too. I also think it has to do with the cold. I wonder if our muscles/nerves/brains sometimes interpret the cold as burning? I usually do feel better when it gets warmer outside, and I'm hoping you experience the same.

--- yes ... every few months, i'll get a localized area, maybe the size of my hand, on different parts of my body -- feels more like a bad sunburn ... it always has distinct pain borders .. can be on my scalp, torso or groin and will usually last about 2-3 weeks ... 2 neurologists from the same group looked puzzled when i mentioned it .. i've been on higher doses of gabapentin and it seems to ease the pain somewhat...

more of an annoyance, than the more intense pains i have, but in my eyes, these should have been signals for my doctors years ago for an earlier diagnoses...

Welcome, Ochiba!  It's nice meeting you.  Nope, it sure isn't fun having fibro and I totally agree with you that the doctors should be able to give an accurate diagnosis in far less time than they do these days.  But, for many years the doctors didn't think this was an illness, that it was all in our heads.  They are changing their thinking finally but it does take time.  At least now they are really looking for causes for this illness.  Meanwhile, we will help one another and get through this with flying colors!

Sherrine, I'm sorry your house is cold--- my hardwood floors are great in the summer, they keep everything so cool, but now, they're like ice to me! We're keeping the fireplace burning.

Ochiba, the timing of my burning pain is similar to yours....every few weeks it hits a new area.

I'm certainly looking forward to spring! Hope everyone is feeling better today.

Yankee Girl, half of my floors are covered with ceramic tile.  It's usually great but it's like walking on ice cubes right now.  No bare feet for me!

Sorry it's so cold down there. My boss is down in Disney World right now and I don't think those
rides are really designed for that kind of weather.
We finally hit -4 here in central NY and my front door froze shut. My kerosun heater keeps it
about 55-60 in the living room but a month or so ago we had severe cold and blowing to the
point my toilet bowl froze and it was 46 in my living room.
Even being used to the cold I find it seems to "burn" my muscles much more in the winter.
I know for years before the fibro my arthritis would burn to the point you could actually feel
it through my clothes. My joints would get very hot.

I'm so glad you started this thread! I have been complaining all week about this burning pain in the muscles in my back! It's just never been this bad before so I've noticed it alot more. I live in Indiana and it's 23 degrees here right now. The cold has made it difficult to function daily! I'm still waiting on my first pain management appt (Feb 5th) and I think some of my pain has been from getting more and more nervous about that first appt. I've never been to one before!

My joints get hot as well Nana. I've noticed that my knees are both warm to the touch every day, mostly in the inner part of my knees. Usually I am in the recliner with ice on both knees. It's not a great existance by any means. I have no pain meds to take for any of my pain so I've resorted to drinking Nyquil at night just to get some sleep! I hate my life at this point, just because I really don't have one! My life revolves around this pain and I don't see an end in sight!

Wow, depressing. I hope your pain gets better and you find a way to get it to let up. If you find a way, please let me know! Thanks!

Hi Yankee, I wanted to reply because I am being 'scalded' at this very moment on both biceps and back of my neck. It feels like someone has a heated iron and is using me as an ironing board! The muscles themselves feel very tight and overused. Boy, I need a hot tub...!
