I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the last 4 months but realize I have been suffering with it for years. Just didn't have a name to go along with all the pain I was having. I am amazed at how many other problems go along with it other than pain. I have done all the rx drugs except Lyrica and have pain medications and muscle relaxants at my disposal. Nothing really helps. I am active with my job despite the pain but get scared when I have to sit down because I know it is going to hurt to get up. I am to the point it is affecting my ability to perform by chosen career with the passion I once had. I have been blessed with a husband who is patient and well.. just a true gift from God. I want for him what I also want for myself - to be the women I used to be. Or something like her. Ha! I just feel lost at what to do. Alright I am feeling sorry for myself right now I know this but it has actually helped to write it down. My husband is a blessing but he still doesn't quite understand what it feels like to hurt all the time. He tries but honestly how can people really understand ( I mean really understand) unless they live it. Thank you for letting me vent.

Hi and welcome to the fibro forum!  You have come to the right place.  We have members that love to help one another and we really do care about each other, too!  Also, we really DO understand what you are talking about.

 

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  THere are links to good information about fibromyalgia and you will learn a lot there. 

 

You do need to keep moving and stretching.  If you sit or lay too much, you will be stiff as a board.  I think you have found that out already.  There are some good stretching exercises that you can do while sitting down or at a desk.  They are in the Fibro 101 thread.  This might help you some at work.

 

No one quite understands what it feels like to hurt all of the time, unless they have been there and done that.  We do have to remember that.  You can't see fibro so we look just fine to everyone.  I used to try to get people to understand but have pretty much given up now and I just do what I can do.  There is a link in Fibro 101 called The Spoon Theory.  This might help your husband understand a little better, though, because it sounds like he is trying to understand.

Hi Ob1pooky,

I would also like to welcome you to the forum.  You definately have come to a good place, where everybody does understand.  We live in pain daily.   "Normal" people just don't get it.  But I am sure that they do try. 

You are not alone anymore.  We are here for you and like Sherrine said, we do all care about eachother.  It is nice to come here and find some afirmation and people who do understand.

As Sherrine said, check out fibro101.  There is a wealth of information there.  It kind of sums everything up into one area. 

We love to share information, so you will read a lot here about what we go through every day.  The good the bad and the ugly I guess you could say.  We try to use humor to get our minds off of things.  So Join in on Sherrines virtual party.  It is a lot of fun.  We try to leave her with a big mess to clean so she doesn't get bored. lol...

Keep posting, and know that you are among friends now.

Hi Ob1 and welcome to the family. This is a great place to learn all the dos and don'ts about fibro. I wish I would have sought help here years before I did. It's great to have an understanding husband even if they don't fully get it and of course they can't. It's like having a baby, they can watch it but they will never fully understand what it feels like.

Hi, Ob1 pooky, welcome to our family! Sorry you are hurting. Finding what works for pain
is trial and error. We all tolerate meds differantly. Lot of us were found to be Vitamin D
deficient and that can add to your pain, have your doc check your levels.

We understand your pain because we live it. Even though our loved ones may not feel
our pain, their love and support is greatly appreciated.

Ask hubby how he felt the last time he had the flu... the kind where even your hair hurts. Explain that this is how you feel most of the time. Tell him that living with fibro can be ok if you have help. I can vacuum if I do it moving from chair to chair and sitting much of the time. (There is no rule that says you have to stand all the time to vacuum!) I can get groceries if someone else brings them in the house for me and puts them away. I just don't have the stamina to do whole big jobs.

As far as the loving part of marriage, my doctor "prescribed" marital relations about twice a week to help with my pain. She explained that gentle love making involves lots of stretching, moving, good feelings and the release of endorphins that act as a natural pain killer for about two hours afterward. My husband was overjoyed with this "prescription" and very happy to help out. He has learned to become much more in tune with my body and we are closer than ever. If you explain to hubby that starting with a gentle back rub and continuing on from there will help you become pain free for a while he may be very obliging. Worth a try?

My husband would love that remedy.  It is just a problem with never feeling well enough to provide that remedy that often.  I know that sounds bad but I haven't figured out how to get the energy to do alot of things.  I am a nurse and I work long hours.  I have had to change my schedule around to where I don't work more that two days in a row.  Even after one day it takes a day to recover. I am trying to stretch but I am not doing a great job.  This is affecting all aspects of my life.  I didn't realize how much till I had friends at work confront me to tell me they were really worried about me.  I am not smiley any more or even anywhere near what I used to be like.  It is hard to smile and be bubbly when your just trying to get through the day.  I have to fix this!

Hi ob1pooky... I just wanted to let you know since you stated that you haven't tried lyrica yet! I take it and i just wanted you to know it does help me with the fibro pain.. I also have RA and with the two of them i needed some relief.. not to mention the back pain i have. sad
But anyway.. i thought you should know and i hope if you do try it you fined as much relief as i have!! It don't cure it but it sure does give you back some of what you had.
