There is something that is bothering me...I need some advice!

You have to do what is right for you. You are the one going through the pain. Maybe trying a weak narcotic would be the trick. I take norco and it is a relatively weak one, so I have lots or room to go higher if I need. I was taking six a day when I was working and cut myself back to three a day when I am not. And that works for me.

I hope that you find some relief. And do think of yourself instead of worrying about disappointing others. After all, you are the one experiencing the pain.

For a while now, I feel like my Suboxone hasn't been working like it used to. I felt that way before my FIL passed away. I suppose that I feel more this way because of his death, but I don't really think that that is the case. I am just in pain, and I need something to help. The Suboxone just really isn't doing that for me. If I found myself becoming too immune to their effects again, then I would go back on what I am on now. I just feel like right now my current med is just not really helping all that much.

Sassy, did you go off the narcotics cause you thought you had a problem or cause your family thought you had a problem??? Have you ever been dxd with an addiction problem???

 

I use vicodin very sparingly cause I know it can be highly addictive and I don't need it all the time. Plus, after taking it one day I seemed to have a lot more anxiety, don't know if it was the vicodin or not but my body was over reacting to everything and that was kinda scary and haven't taken any since.

 

In my opinion you need to discuss this with your doc, not your family, and do what is best for you. They aren't the ones living in a fibro body with a toddler to take care of.

It seems like you are worrying too much about what everybody else thinks and feels. Take care of YOU...

If you feel the meds aren't working when you go back on them, take a drug holiday. Go off of them for a while, they will start to work again. It is hard with narcotics, especially the stronger ones. The body builds up a tolerance and you have to quit taking them for a couple of weeks to get them working again.

Do what is right for you. You are the one in pain. Don't worry about disappointing anybody. I think if they had the pain that you have, they would understand. But they don't, so you just have to take care of yourself. Try the stronger meds again. I bet that they will relieve the pain, for a while anyway. Maybe take less than you are prescribed and when you need more, you wont be exceeding the prescription. There are still stronger meds than percocet. So you have some leeway there. There is oxycontin, morphine and dilaudid. That is the only ones that I know of at this time. You need some help. Don't be afraid to ask for it, especially if your doc has been willing to prescribe before for you.

My son, who is now 37, has felt for a long time that I have a "drug problem" because I take Vicoprofen. Some of it I think is just him giving me crap, just trying to push my buttons, But man, it hurts. Most of us have spent many many years with our closest family members and friends not understanding what we are going through, the pain we have to deal with day in and day out. I have been on narcotics for 20 years. I've been on Vicoprofen since it was brought onto the market, which was about ten years ago, I think. I am prescribed 5 a day and I have never, ever run out of my prescription. Yes, there have been really bad days where I've taken more, but then I back off on a better day. I've never had to take a break from the medication and I certainly don't feel I am addicted to the drug. Yes, I'm dependent on it, for relief of pain. I am coming to terms realizing that some people just don't understand and they may never will.
My son played football in college, he also wrestled and played rugby. He now is beginning to feel the effects of all those years of sports, in his lower back and shoulders. I hate to say it, but "what comes around, goes around"...don't get me wrong, I wish nothing but happiness for my son, but I think you hear what I'm saying.
If you do not have an addiction problem, then I would definitely see my doctor and talk to him/her about getting back on narcotics. If your family doesn't understand, well, that is their problem. You are the one that has to live with the pain every, single day. You need to do what is right for you.

I am glad that you talked to your husband, and I bet you feel better about it now. I hope that you get to see your doctor on the 19th and that you are able to get back on your medications. You need some relief from the pain. I hope that you are able to make it until then, if not, call your doctor and get on the medications sooner.

Sassy, the only thing that worries me is that you said you had to take more and more for them to work. So does that mean they were not helping you much? Did you say they stopped working as good for you? My pain doctor said that happens to a lot of people, then they have to find a different way to alleviate the pain. If you go back on them, will they help you?

Stress can make the fibro worse; so can certain weather. You are definitely experiencing stress with the loss of your FIL. I just wonder if something else besides what you are taking now, will work better.

I know it is easier said than done - but ignore the negative family members, if you can. I agree with Dagger. If you do decide to try narcotics again, do they even have to know?
