I have been on 100 mg of ami for 12 or 13 yrs. I was on it for depression and anxiety when I was dxd with fibro. I credit it for me not having as pain as many do. Lowered my dose a little two years ago and went into the worst flare I've ever had for two weeks til the full dose got into my system.
If you google amitriptyline in the 'google custom search' right under 'Join HealingWell' at the top of the page it will bring up all the old threads on it. I know there was one recently about it.
Side effects for me have been even dryer mouth than normal and craving sweets but I have been fortunate in not gaining weight from it. I do know it is really hard to get off of when you have anxiety cause it causes rebound anxiety, found that out long before I had fibro and pain was an issue too. The smaller the dose you are on the easier it is to go off of. I was on 25 mg off and on over many years and going off when I didn't feel like I needed it anymore was easier but I didn't have fibro then.
I would like to get off of it so I could try some of the newer meds that are out but don't know if I will ever be able to do that.
Kirsten's mom, maybe it was helping your daughter with the pain is why she decided she didn't have fibro any longer.
luv and hugs
