It's like a game sometimes...anyone else?

Okay well sometimes it is like a game to me in that when I'm in a lot of pain, I will sit here at work and try to let my work distract me or look at a forum like coming here and see if I can distract or temorarily overcome the pain. Some times it works, some times it doesn't. Does anyone else do this sort of??

 

I'm hurting pretty bad right about now, but anyway...notice my pattern? When I'm in a lot of pain I'm hear like crazy...lol

I find myself here everyday. This forum helps me and I find if I can help someone
else it is an added bonus.

Coming here, I know I am among others who do truly understand. I have learned
so much since I have found this forum. If I can share an experiance that might help
others it makes having fibro worthwhile. This forum is truly a blessing!

I play games too with the fibro. I use distractions as you do. It really does help. I try not to think about the pain. It can be done. Mind over matter.

I work dogs (in case you didn't know, German Shepherds) in the sport of Schutzhund.  It is very physical and the comaradarie (sp?) and all the dog talk takies my mind off my pain.  Right now I visit my 2 pups, although they inflict pain with their needle teeth turn .  I am dreading spring baths and de-shedding, 5 GSD's 2 horses and a pony.  My army ache just thinking about it

What do you do for the puppy biting??? Mine is biting up a storm. But she puts less pressure on it, it is her far back teeth coming in. She likes to chew my fingers. But when I thump her for biting me, she growls at me and attacks me. Do I make her submit??? I hate to hold her down, she really has a tantrum and is only 9 weeks old. But I need to get a grip on this. Sorry to get off topic, but wanted to catch you with this question. Mine is a GSD too!

Hi Karen, Get that growling under control soon. I have beenknown to spray my hands / arms with bitter apple, hopefully yours doesn't like the taste. My pups are 6 weeks and I did the scruff shake and finally the roll with the female. She was growling and snarling at the boy who was in my lap. I normally don't believe in that but I can't have her coming up the lead at me during training later on. Is she German or American bloodlines? I also let them gnaw on RAW bones, never cooked or those hard baked splintery things from the store, for a pup a rib bone works great.

After a while a loud OUCH or something along with a correction and hopefully she witt get the idea. Nyla bones are good too, I like the flavored ones for the dogs. How about a squeaky toy to divert her attention? She will outgrow it but it hurts, you shouild see my arms and hands................... Feel free to email me any time!!

I play mind games with fibro all the time, it's a survival game. Distraction is a good tool. You have to lose yourself in something other than the pain. If I just sit here and concentrate on all the pain sometimes it will drive me crazy.

 

When my little shih tzu, Tique, puts any pressure on my hand when we are playing all I have to do is say, "ouch", and she starts licking me. If I say ouch and pretend like I'm crying she comes up and starts licking my face and looks so sad and sorry. Krissy on the other hand is not that sensitive.

Yes, I do that too, hopegirl. I am here now because of a lot of pain today. Being here does help me feel better because I feel less alone. And yes, distractions do help. I have a little "game" I play called attitude of gratitude. I find little things to be thankful for and say a short prayer of thankfulness. If you are not a person who prays, a statement of gratefulness would work, too. The camelias (sp?) were blooming the first time I did this and I said, "thank you God for the blooming camelias." I feel so much better when being grateful.

As a matter of fact, I was thinking about this yesterday. Whenever I feel unhappy for what I lost, I forget to be thankful for what I still have. That is a good thought for today.

I know what you mean. I have crocus popping up and my cherry tree is budding. I am so thankful for these small pleasures, some people wouldn't even notice. I think this makes us so rich in our own way. You know what I mean. I think we are fortunate that we can enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

I sent you an email. I am all scratches and bites on my arms and hands.  But she is getting much gentler, though she is defiant.  I have the bitter apple that I could use.  Thanks for the idea.

I hope that everybody is having a wonderful painfree day. It is sunny out here, just a little chilly, but not snowing. So that is another thing to be thankful for.

I play a game at night when I can't sleep and it helps me to fall asleep. I make myself hold my eyes open, as if I can't shut them, before I know it they are starting to shut and I am falling asleep. Works every time, kind of a reverse pshchology type thing.

I do a lot of counting blessings too when I'm really hurting as I have been this week, thank goodness the bug I have had and rainy weather is about over, at least I hope it is. My oldest son is coming home for a week at the end of next week and great grandson's first birthday party is the 3rd so I have things to look forward to. Grandson that is a senior in college has a concert the 8th, I think that is his last college concert, he is a music major. He is in LA this week about a job for NBC writing scores for movies, very exciting time in his life and I am so happy for him. My life may be boring but I have so many young ones in my life I want only the best for and I'm thankful I'm here to share it with them and be a part of it.

 

If nothing else I lose myself in a game on the computer that takes a lot of concentration to play and can't be thinking about pain while playing it. We live and we learn with fibro all the little tricks we can play on our minds.
