This is kind of a follow-up post to the Koffee Klatch that talked about our personal life motto.

Have you ever seen those t-shirts that say Advice from a moose, bear, wildflower or ? Our pet chicken who we have had for 12 years passed away last night. Even though she was less than 10" tall she had as much personality as most people and wasn't afraid to show it. Because of that I have said several times that I wanted an "Advice from my Chicken" t-shirt. I may never get the shirt but thought I'd pass along some of the advice I'm pretty sure she would have given me.

-Follow your nature

-Playing in the dirt can have its rewards

-You don't have to be big to be strong

-Seek without knowing what you will find

-A little attitude, silent or otherwise, can go a long way

-Let your spirit be as big as the great outdoors

Now that is one wise bird. I want to be just like her.

So sorry about your chicken.  We have had a few that had definite personalities and named them.  The most memorable was Cottonball a featherfoot silkie.

Lisa, I'm sorry you lost your pet last night.  She sounds like she was really something and it's wonderful you appreciated her and her personality.  I was especially surprised at her age!  I had no idea that chickens lived that long.

Hey Lisa,
That is so cool that you had a chicken for a pet. Chickens (and ducks, too) are awesome. I am sorry that you lost her. Sounds like she gave you some good advice!

Lisa I am so sorry about the loss of your pet. When I was young I had a pet rooster. He guarded my sisters and I when we played. He would chase the school bus when we left for school. It broke my young heart when we loss him. I did not know chickens would live so long. You must have been a great "mommy" to her.

Hello everyone. Thanks so much for all your kind words. It helps to know others can appreciate how much pets bring to our lives. That chicken was a little critter but a part of our daily life. She was my gardening buddy. Anytime I was playing in the dirt she would magically show up waiting for me to dig up a worm for her. If I didn't she would get mad and squawk loudly at me. She always seemed to be able to let you know what was on her mind. Like I said, she had attitude. Gotta love that. It's just weird today not seeing her cruising around the yard seeking or having her supervise me in the flower garden. She was something else.

THANKS FOR SHARING THAT POST OF YOUR CHICKEN.  I LEARNED SOMETHING NEW TODAY.  THAT A CHICKEN COULD LIVE SO LONG, AND THAT A CHICKEN COULD HAVE THAT MUCH OF A PERSONALITY.  REALLY REALLY SWEET HON.  THANKS AGAIN

Sounds like really nice memories. We used to have a duck who acted the same way. We named her Orville and she squawked at me all of the time trying to tell me (probably) that she was a girl!! She followed me all over the yard. Pets are such great companions.
