Are you ever without pain?

I am just wondering if you are ever without pain?

Grant it somedays are worse than others, but it seems like I always hurt.

It seems to move from one area to another or sometimes it's just plain all over.

Does it ever go away?

I'm right there w/ you. I always have burning pain in my back, the rest of the pain or burn moves around to ad interest to my day.

Yes, some days are worse than others, but the burning back is constant, so that is my All The Time Buddy!

I've had Fibro all my life, so I think it has settled in here rather nicely, it shows no signs of leaving. DARN!

I'm sorry you are feeling so much pain, I do hope it gives you some peace.

Not that I'm aware of! Sometimes it's not in the front of my mind, because it's not that severe. But if I stop and think about it, oh yeah, it hurts somewhere. It moves, like you said, it gets worse and gets better, but it's never really gone.

I'm with the rest. I don't have any totally pain-free days, even with meds. I just have some days when the pain is easier to ignore than others. I always seem to have pain in the lower back. Sometimes it is a dull ache, and on worse days, a severe, throbbing pain. On the worst days, it migrates to other areas. It seems that it can move around just about anywhere on my body.

I guess I always hurt, but it is like backround noise... not in my face pain unless I'm
flaring. Living with chronic pain you get accustomed to it. What I really notice are the days
when my pain seems minimal. It's funny when you live with chronic pain, you really do
enjoy the days that you feel pretty good...I don't take these days for granted anymore!

I hear you, Robin!  And then I usually blow it, like today ... decided to paint a small bookshelf (shocking!) and after 20 minutes my upper back/neck/shoulders are throbbing with outrage so here I am, trying to take it easy.  eyes

I notice that I don't seem to have totally pain-free days, but there are days where I don't notice it as much. Maybe I am just getting used to it. That's kind of sad if you think about it. shakehead

That is why I try not to think about it. I hurt all of the time too. I do remember one day a few years ago, I noticed that I didn't have pain for the first time in years. But it was just that one day.

So I am on the same boat as everybody else. No pain free days. I always hurt somewhere. Mostly in the neck and shoulders, but always somewhere.

As always, I wish everybody a painfree day...

I dont remember what it was like to have a day where something doesnt hurt. I have become so accustomed to having pain that I can break something and just think it is part of the fibro. A couple years ago I fractured my pelvic and my saccharin in my back and I worked for three months before the pain got bad enough for me to end up in the hospital. I also had x-rays on my left foot a couple years ago and the dr. said I see that you broke your big toe at some time. I just looked at him and said not that I know of. lol Like others here I have some days that I dont notice it as much but its always there. Like others have said dont let yourself give up, stay active and dont let the fibro win. Take care

No I am never without pain and I am hopping mad about it! In fact right now I am looking for a good pain mgt doctor because I refuse to believe that this is it for me. There are pain medicines out there and I want some! And I don't want to hear about it. I have educated myself about the risks, I have talked to the doctors about it and I want some medicine. I am 36 years old and I want to be pain free. There are a lot of reputable esteemed doctors that feel it is irresponsible NOT to administer pain medication as long as it is done correctly and reasonably. That's what I want to have a run at. I am tired of trying to be pain martyr- now I want the pain meds! And a good doctor to help me to use them responsibly. Oh and while I am at it- I want my life back. At 36 I am tired of being a boring shut in. Thanks for asking! smilewinkgrin

Good for you!  There's no reason we shouldn't be treated like responsible adults just because we're in pain.

SadSickTired, I agree that you should be able to get the pain meds you need. The trick
is finding a med that is able to take pain away and allow you to function without feeling
like a zombie. In the past I've been on vicodin, it helped with the pain but I hated the way
I felt on it. Wishing you the best in finding something that works wonderful for you!

With everyone else, never pain free....

some days pain is mild as in aches here and there or a back pain

some days its just my feet and fingers, then it seems if it is a good day and my body pain is rather minimal....then I usually have either a tummy ache or a headache... you just can't win

 

But with my med's finally being regulated by my rheumy....I lead a pretty normal life now, but I"m just exhausted all the time.

Since the onset of my fibro (July 20, 2008) I have had one pain free day.  There are varying degrees, as the others have said but never totally free.  It's very wearying.....

Short answer - No...I am never pain free. Like most of the others here, I am sometimes less aware of the pain, depending on what I'm doing, and in my case, how well rested I am as well.

I am on medication and for the most part, it helps. It doesn't make the pain go away completely though...it's always there in the background, like the hum of electricity in the house. If I am over active (which basically means "if I attempt to do anything normal") then the pain flares up in varying degrees and I am slammed with how much pain I'm actually in.

Yes, it sucks, but I refuse to give in. I'm still living optimistically, I'm still living positively and I'm still smiling. Even with all the pain, I live a blessed life, with people to love who love me back, and a lot to be thankful for.

No. I'm never actually free of it. I think its actually worse if you can remember what life was like when you complained about this lil owie or that lil owie and it was the "before" time. Before I had fibro, I can actually remember it and I truly think it makes it all worse. Still, I'm trying to let go of the before and focus completely on the now. It moves around but yeah, its always there. Sorry.

Always have pain, some days its minor some days it's sharp. It moves around so I just ignore it knowing it will go away.

No,never entirely without pain for the last 26 years. Also in that time I've tried every pain killer known to humanity. The NSAIDS worked on my arthritis pain--I can't take them anymore, so I've noticed that they did work, but not on fibro pain. I've also taken pretty much all the narcotics--short of morphine--and they didn't do anything either. I certainly didn't get high from them. I read once that people with fibro have opioid receptors in their brains that don't work right. Hope you find something that works. Diane

Me too... I hadn't really thought of it until someone asked and I see others answers. You all put it into words so well. It IS like background pain with times of intense pain popping through. Sort of like a rumbling volcano with frequent lava flows over my body.

I do agree with sadsicktired...you should be treated with respect. But it's sometimes hard to find a doctor who will work WITH you and not only be concerned about his hiney getting sued for prescribing pain meds. If he's being honest and not over medicating people then there should be no reason for a doc to worry. Mine works for the Patient!...not for the insurance company or any lawyers or government agencies waiting in the wings.

One thing I might comment on is the topic that Robin opened up....being on pain meds does not make you pain free...unless you are knocked out. But done properly it does reduce the pain enough so you can tolerate it and put it "in the background". You can take something like Provigil to help with the drowsy feeling of pain meds but they only 'help' and don't keep you totally awake either. I'm speaking from experience here since that's the regime I'm on.

I am never without pain. Pain changes throughout the day. When my body realizes I am awake it decides to give me a hard time.

The pain is always there no matter what... the pain varies. I do have a cabinet that looks
like a mini pharmacy of meds that I have tried over the years. Right now the combo of
Savella, cyclobenzaprene and Excederin best suit my needs for dealing with fibro.

In my original post I mentioned pain is like background noise, that's exactly what it is for
me unless I'm flaring and that happens more than I wish. Living with fibro means learning
to live with it.

You know, I had asked on here before about flares. I kept reading about them but for me the pain was constant. I can only answer for me, but I am alwasy in pain. what I did find though was that it was a matter of which degree of pain am I in today. I have days where I can tolerate it very well and then days where I think death would come easier. I now look forward to the lighter pain days. I hope that yours subsides at times and you can get a little relief. Good luck sweetie.

I always have pain, some days worse than others. Just recently I read an article on FM and migrating pain. Of course, I can't remember most of what I read right now, LOL...but I'm guessing you could Google "migrating pain and fibromyalgia"... which is probably the reason for many of us having pain in one area one day and then some place else the next day, or next hour. I found it interesting. Sometimes, at least for me, knowledge seems to help. Doesn't make the pain go away, but I am less anxious about it.
