Hello Everyone, I stumbled acroos this forum today. I have been suffering years of pain, I go to the doctors and have been told they do not know what is wrong with me! At times I was told I had Lupus and even MS at one time.

Well today I seen the doctor for my knees and legs....I have such a time sleeping at night. I just cant seem to relax and be out of pain. Anyway I walked away when he did not know what was wrong. He did give me a script for an antidepressant to take a night to help me sleep.

I have been reading about Fibro and I really think that this is my problem. But how does one get a doctor to agree? I have been tested for lupus, ms, and os...my blood test are all good and the only test that showed something was for carpal tunnel. Any help would be so helpful please!

Hi momoffour10, welcome to our forum. I'm so sorry you are hurting! Getting a diagnosis
does take some time. One of the first steps is getting bloodwork done to see if you have
any of the connective tissue diseases. Fibro and CTD's have some simular symptoms.
You have said your bloodwork came back fine.

Pain and fatigue are the most common symptoms of fibro. The pain is widespread and it
affects the upper ,lower and all four quadrants of the body. There are 18 differant places
on the body that are checked. These are called tenderpoints or trigger points and they are
checked for tenderness. Checkout fibro 101, second thread, pg 1 there is a section called
What else could it be? A doctor has to take his time to rule out possibilities, taking all your
symptoms into consideration and it does take time. Good luck to you!

Hi, and welcome!  If I were you, I'd look for a new doctor.  I use a board certified Internist for my fibro and everything else.  Many use a rheumatologist but get a board certified one.  Call and ask if they treat patients with fibromyalgia.  Don't waste your time if they don't.  You do need a doctor that believes in this illness in order to get help.

 

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  You will learn a lot there.  You can print out the list of symptoms and check off all that you have.  You can print out the log and keep track of what you do that give you more pain.  There are pain charts that help you describe your pain.  Put that in your log, too, and take these to the doctor.  This will help them better understand what you are dealing with.
