Just an update 0n my pain meds. I went to see my Doc for pain meds. He asked "What do you need and how much?"

Yep he now just hands them over now it took 3 visits he understands I need the pain relief. I need to sleep for some pain relief for me they go hand in hand.

Now I am in Australia where every scdript is looked at [at least once] my doc is great now I have seen him a few times now he talks to me like a friend now. I am truely blessed with him. But it took time and a lot of pain but now he helps and wants to see me every two weeks [he is free] the goverment pays directly to him.

So keep on seeing the doc he will get that you are really in pain. By swapping Doc's you give the impression you are just after those tablets. This will make it harder for you to get them. I lived in mind blowing pain for years beefore I found a doc who understood what Fibro really was and to say I was treated wronyly is an understatement. Who would give some one chemothapy for Fibro I was on it for TEN weeks. Yep my hair was falling out.  This included a Spelistist  I went to a different Doc who understood what was wrong and he knew I needed pain relief and the rest is history. When he retired dur to ill health I saw a different doc who almost killed me dure to just giving out pain meds and kept changing me from different meds on every visit. Hell on earthl I tell you.

And now finally after years I have a great doc again. But even with him it has taked a few visits now finally I have all the help I need. "Pain relief"

It makes perfect sense to stick with a doctor for awhile to try and see if he/she is going to help with pain. But how long can a person wait? How long do we have to suffer before we know what is going to happen? It is getting harder and harder to get pain medications for pain management. It is because of people abusing pain medications. It is on the rise and seems to be peoples drug of choice anymore. Which makes it even harder for us to get what we need for pain. This is really sad to me, but it happens. I guess we have to have faith and as always take life one day at a time. Hoping when we get up in the morning, that we will feel well.

I ran across this thread while looking for Fibro results at pain clinics. I have an appointment in 2 weeks at a pain clinic my rheumatologist suggested. The rheumatologist told my GP to give me 25 mg of Cymbalta once daily and the balance of the treatment was physical therapy. I hurt so bad I can barely get out of bed many days. Or I crawl to work, barely function at work, and go right to bed when I get home. I exist, not live.

My GP is wonderful and empathetic. He believes how sick I feel and how much I hurt. He prescribes me Vicodin, Cymbalta, Lyrica, Ambien among others. Unless I have a flare, I function.

After reading about the poor results others have at pain clinics, I am wondering if I should cancel my appointment. I don't need to go backward. This is a recognized chain of pain clinics in a metropolitan area.

Any advice?

Hi SJN, Not all pain specialists are like that, I have been to a couple of them that tried everything to help me, but I cannot tolerate oral pain meds and even the pain patches they gave me didnt work. But they did try really hard so there are some good ones out there. It wasnt until I broke my sacharin and pelvic bone a couple years ago that they used fentanyl patches at the hospital and it also helped my fibro pain. I hope the one you see is as nice as the ones I had. By the way welcome to the fibro family if you have any questions please dont be afraid to post them. We have a great group here that are always willing to offer support and advice.

This subject makes me crazy.... I had an awesome pain management doctor in Texas 8 years ago. He believed in ME , he believed that his patients were in pain and he needed to do what he could to give us the ability to be comfortable and he also made sure he followed up on us every month to start and every 3 months after the relationship was built and he could assess us. He gave Oxycontin, OxyCodone, Serzone , the Lidederm Patches for me in quantities that I could self medicate without having to count my pills and make sure I had enough to get me through. He gave me an amount I could go up to and not pass and yes, I did have to drug test on every visit.. If I increased my dose and it began to be a trend, I was expected to call in and consult with him and sometimes he would insist on a visit before my 3 month term was up. I felt like I was in control of my pain level and I had the tools and medication I needed. I moved to wisconsin, took my records to the pain management clinic there and the doctor said.... well.... your not in Texas anymore, we don't give drugs away like "candy" and I know your in pain but that's how God has designed it... You need to learn to live with the pain" He took all the medication away except the Lididerm Patch and sent me home.... What a jerk. I could not move , and the withdrawl from the oxy contin was horrible and I had no support except my husbahd. I wrote a letter to the board and nothing was done. Some doctors should not have a license to practice anywhere.

I hope yo have good luck , hydorcodone is not a horrible drug to prescribe. If you were any hollywood insider you could get what you wanted when you wanted it.... Don't think of it as Drug shopping.... Do think of it as Doctor Shopping..... You have every right to move from Doctor to Doctor until you find one that will listen to you, and respond to your needs... That's your right.

I was told by my physical therapist that I probably have a torn meniscus. I will put off going to the pain clinic until I am finished taking care of my knee. One painful problem at a time.

I've been interested in going to a pain clinic for a while now, but where I live there are only a few. One of my got my uncle addicted to oxycodone so my mom won't let me see him. I've called all the rest within 25 miles and they all told me they don't treat fibromyalgia. I'm seeing a new rheumy tomorrow in the hope that he believes in giving pain relievers, unlike my current one. My primary doesn't even believe in fibromyalgia!
