Don't take my Savella away from me!!!

I'm just having a minor freak-out moment here. I got put on Savella three weeks ago (samples). I called my Doc to get a real prescription because I feel fantabulistic on it. Then he says " Lets hope your public aid will pay for it... if not I'll give you more samples and we'll write a bunch of letters (whatever that means)." Walgreens called me and said they need to talk to the "public aid" people to see if they'll pay for it so that already doesn't look good.

This med has changed my life... I cannot lose it. There's no generic for it yet so that's not an option. shakehead

p.s. Does anyone yawn a million times when they go out in the sun?

It sounds like your doctor will help you with it.  Also, many times the manufacturer will help you when you can't afford a prescription that they make.  Also, in Fibro 101, there is a link called Prescription Drug Help that may help you.  Don't start worrying yet!

Hope you get this all worked out. Sherrine is right there is help out there for prescription drugs if public aid refuses to pay. Keep your chin up.

Sometimes if the doctor expresses how bad you need the med, you can get prioauthorization for it. I wish you the best.

I don't know anything about Savella, but I'm curious about your yawning in the sun remark. What do you mean??

Yawning in the sun...Savella and many drugs that influence serotonin levels have a side effect of yawning.  When you go out into the sun, your body gets an extra boost of serotonin, which is why some people use those Sunlight Lamps in the winter for seasonal depression.  I did A LOT of yawning while on Lexapro and I noticed it was worse when I was outside.  I know Lexapro is a different drug than Savella, but they both affect serotonin levels in the brain.

So....that may be why you are yawning in the sun!

Thank for all the support and help! It means so much to me. I haven't heard from Walgreens yet so I'm going to look into all the information you guys posted. My doctor is extremely supportive of me and has been working on a diagnoses for my symptoms for a year now so I know it'll all work out. I just had a minor panic attack when he said public aid might now cover it!

about the yawning... I never thought of it being from Savella! Interesting! I've always felt horrible in the sun... super sleepy. I just thought it was so weird I couldn't get myself to stop yawning!! Actually, I was only outside for 10 minutes and became fatigued for an hour. We are having a heat wave here in chicago!

Hey.. I'm in the Chicago area!! and Hey! I was on Savella too.. and Hey.. the company I worked for dumped our good insurance for a crapty High Deductible insurance and there is no way I could afford Savella on my own.. I was lucky enough to find a doc that agreed to let me try LDN.. so far so good. my copay on the old insurance was 60 dollars for Savella. Think the full cost is something like 112. 00 for 100mg/day. Now I saved myself at least 20 bucks.. my script only costs 42. not bad compared to the 60..

oh i feel so horrible in the sun as well. I just started Savella yesterday and before the dr even gave it to me i wanted her to make sure it was covered by my state aid. She said it had just been accepted. PHEW. I'm soo sorry. I really hope this Savella works for me the way it has for you

Yey the probs I have with the sun are the only contridictory symptom I have of fibro. The heat and the sun absolutly kills me!!!

Heat and Sun kill me too. But I have Rosacea and that will sting my cheeks big time.
Savella took a month and a half to delete the pain. At about three weeks into it.. i was able to cut my Muscle Relaxant down to nights only and stopped all Vicodin and just used Etodolac. (NSAID). A month and a half into it.. I didn't have to take any thing else other then Tylenol once in awhile. Savella does nothing for Arthritis though and may even make it feel worse. Savella DID increase my heat intolerance big time though.
