Reaching out for a Doctor Recomendation

cool  Well, the move from Wisconsin to Texas is on. Will be leaving here on the 22nd and be out of this horrible winter snow storm weather, am so thankful, BUT I know I will have to get used to the Texas heat again... At least there is air conditioning.... AND ... Praise God, my husbands company said he's too valuable to lose so they signed contracts today for him to work from home.... Yay...At least some money coming in since I have lost my job now... Anyway.... I am going to be in the Austin area and wanted to reach out to see if anyone is from that region and see if you know of a FibroFriendly doctor. I have been searching the web and can't find much information. Fibro 101 does not have one listed in that area either. So I'm on the hunt... Boy do I hate to leave my doctor here, he's fantastic and it only took 20 years to find him... If you can help I would be so grateful.

Sorry Steph, I live in North Dakota so cant help you with a dr. but I am happy for you that you will no longer have to deal with the winter weather, and what a relief that your hubby can keep his job. That is awesome. I do hope someone can tell you a good dr. in texas.

I'm in Florida so I'm no help.  But, see if there is a teaching hospital near you.  They would know good doctors that deal with fibro patients.  Also, look in your local phone book when you get there.  Many doctors, in the Yellow Pages, will list the illnesses they treat!  Also look for board certified doctors and, if possible, diplomates.  These doctors have more education and the diplomates have to take tests yearly, I believe, to keep that distinction.  That keeps them on their toes.  My doctor is a board certified Internist that is a diplomate and is affiliated with the medical school at a university by me.  He's great.  So, that's what you want to look for.

 

I'm thrilled that your husband can work from home!  You were concerned about that a week or so ago.  God is good!  You'll get used to the warm weather, too.  Besides, most of the year it is beautiful.  Sure beats snow!

Thank you everyone. I have a pain management doctor that I have used before that I am going to try to get in with quickly while I look for a really good Rheumy... I know that Dr. Owen treats fibro paitents too (Pain Mngmt Doc) but I really want a good Rheumy so I will take your advise.

Sherrine - I had not heard of a Diplomat - I know there is a big hospital there, don't It's not a university hospital though. I do also have a cousin that's a nurse and she may have some insights too.
Always making sure they are board certified and really care about Fibro Patients.

If none else fails I will kidnap my doc here and lock him in the back in of my moving van. He's just so awesome...
