Short background: I was diagnosed with fibro halfway through my MA degree. I talked to my advisor and she helped me lighten my load some, so I could finish my thesis and graduate. I was originally going to take more courses than necessary, but didn't.
I am starting my PhD in September. I have been working at the university for a little more than a year and just changed jobs to a graduate student researcher. So, I am officially a grad student now, but not taking courses until September. As a GSR, I work from home on Thursdays to lessen commute days and give myself at least one day where I can stop and lie down in the middle of the day.
Today I am reading requirements and getting ready for the fall session. Our handbook states that disabled students can utilize the student disability resource center. I do not yet know where my classes are, but if they are far across campus, I might use it for permission to arrive late. Maybe a notice to instructors is in order where they are aware that on foggy and/or painful days, I may participate less in class.
Has anyone used student disability resources and what did you do and how did they help you?
