I don't have Crohn's but my sister does. I know Sherrine and some others here also have it. My sister has been very sick lately and has seen many doctors. I will start off by saying my sister will not take any medication because she has severe asthma and is allergic to a lot of meds. She was put on vit D but became very ill and they think it is the dye in the pill. She is so thin it is scary.

My question is, do any of you have swelling in various parts of your body? My sister can barely walk anymore because of swelling in her feet and sometimes her hands. She does have arthritis in her feet. She also has a horrible rash. The doctors can't figure out what is going on with her. They think it is Crohn's related maybe. She will not use the computer-I have mentioned this forum but she says no. I guess I just want to help her somehow. Thanks.

hi puppylover, im so sorry to hear how ill your sister is. i know you must be very worried about her health.i also have crohns and iv learned the hard way if you dont take your meds you do become very ill.crohns is a very seriouse illness and although im sorry i cant give you any answers reg your sister , i can tell you she will need a lot of support. it must be hard when shes had bad re action to some meds and she is prob scared to try others due to this but honestly for her own good id say she will need to get something to try and keep the crohns under control. it can effect your whole body in ways you cant imagine and maybe thats why she has swollen feet and hands. some drs do say crohns and arthritis are linked. i too swell up a lot mostly at my joints or just below them but this is due to arthritis . your sister maybe thin because she cant eat or when she does she needs to run to the toilet if you no what i mean. maybe you could ask this question on the crohns part of this site. they are all very nice there too and iv also had help going there. im so sorry i cant help you any more but ill be keeping you both in my prayers and i do hope your sister gets some help very soon, and that she improves quickly. do you mind me asking is your sister in hospital ? as she does sound very ill and frail. i know im not a dr these are just my oppinions as i have crohns myself and i no how hard it can be to deal with it..maybe you could talk to her dr or go with her when she is next going, it might help to put your mind at rest. sorry if iv went on too much i no how hard this must be for you both..

Puppylover, I never had that problem with Crohn's.  You can have some weird things happen, though, and this might be one of them.  I hope she had seen her doctor about this.  Maybe she is retaining too much fluid.  I know when I have any swelling, I can sometimes get little red dots on  my skin and it itches but it really is from the swelling. 

 

Let us know what she finds out.  I'm curious.  I'm sorry this is late but I missed this post!

Thanks Sherrine and Shana. My sister is going for different tests the next three days. Hopefully the doctors will find something out. She is a year younger than I am and we are close, even though we live far apart now. Her darn disease has taken so much from her. She is not in the hospital right now. I hope the tests give the doctors a clue as to what is going on. She, like a lot of us, has not had the best of luck with doctors. I can never complain about my problems knowing they are small in comparison to hers.
