Shirley, I am so happy that your tumors have shrunk....wonderful news
Have they checked your platelets for clumpimg. I have a rare condition called
psuedothrombocytopenia due to a chemical EDTA inside test tubes.
In the past I always had normal platelet counts. Then they dropped as low
as 14,000. The doctor assumed it was due to a chemo drug I was on. The
fact was really due to my platelets started reacting with the chemical inside
the test tube and started clumping.
Now when my bloodwork is done the standard EDTA purple top tube is used
and a citrate blue top tube without the EDTA is used for platelet counts,
This is an example of my platelet count done recently....standard EDTA tube
that was always used in the past..platelet results 55,000. The platelet test
results using the blue top citrate top 195,000. Normal count 140,000-440,00
This condition affects 1 out of 10,000 people and many people have undergone
uneccessary treatment because doctors don't figure it out. I had 2 bone
marrow biopsies and a spleen ultrasound because they didn't check for this
condition. It was my own research that led to me questioning an oncologist
hematoligist about the condition.
I'm sorry if I'm rambling, but I just wanted you to be aware that something
as simple as a test tube can cause false reading.
Shirley, I will continue to pray for you my friend and hope that your platelets
bounce back.
Hugs, Robin
