I have been doing a good bit of reading on Aspartame and other sugar substitutes. I am appalled that I have been poisoning myself for so many years. I have tossed everything in my kitchen that contains the stuff. The reading suggests that the poisons have contributed to or even caused FM, MS, Lupus, and many other health problems.  Any thoughts? I'm going to offer some polls so I can get a sense of our use of this ingredient. Thank you for any info you can share.

This is false!  We have had this on the forum sooo many times.  You can't believe everything you read because there are too many people with too much time on their hands. shakehead

I'm sorry if you've had this on sooo many times. This is news to me. My physicians agree about its danger. Is this forum the only place I am allowed to learn the "truth"? I was encouraged to come here by people who said all were welcome and no one would be judged or spoken to like an idiot. They must have been talking about a different site. I'm sorry I dared to ask a question and please be assured that I never will bother you again. Everyone, I beg your pardon and please ignore the stupid poll.

I was just answering your question.  I'm sorry if you thought I was judging you.  There are so many things out on the Internet that throw a panic in people and this is one of them. 

 

I will eat a few things with Nutrasweet in them since I'm diabetic but, like all things, I do it with moderation.  It is, after all, a chemical.  But we eat chemicals all of the time.  Just look at labels.  You will find things you can't even begin to pronounce!  So, I was just showing you that this was false and with back-up info to prove it.  If this really caused these problems, it would have been pulled off the shelf long ago.

Hi Pepper welcome to our fibro family, just wanted you to know that I dont and have never been able to use artificial sweeteners of any kind. Just have never been able to stand the taste. My husband hasnt either. I have the fibro and my husband has Multiple Sclerosis. So I cant say that they are part of what is causing these diseases. Please give us a chance and I know that Sherrine didnt mean to offend you she is a great mod. She has been there to support me so many times. We have a great bunch of people here so please give us a chance.

I can't tolerate artificial sweeteners, either. I began avoiding them long before the fibro reared it's ugly head. They make me nauseous and leave a taste in my mouth that makes it seem like I've been sucking on dirty pennies. So while I believe they are bad, I don't feel that I can blame my fibro on them, since I've been avoiding them for so long (sugar alcohols, included).

Pepper, I think you are a little too sensitive and took Sherrine's comment out of context.  This really is a great site if you stick around if you don't good luck in where ever you end up.

I do not and never have used artificial sweetners and have had fibro for years.

I don't touch the stuff and know far too many people get instant headaches and body aches their first sip and other die-hard users who are achy, have headaches, wild mood swings and stomach issues when they stop taking it.

Pepper, I have heard good and bad about artificial sweetners. The only one I can sorta handle tastewise is Splenda.

I know my DH drank dietrite coke for many years, and started getting headaches almost daily which went away as soon as he stopped the dietrite. He uses Splenda now, and so far so good.  

I want to welcome you to this site, it is a loving and supportive group here, if you give us a chance.   Sherrine would never knowingly say anything hurtful to anyone.

So I'm hoping you will stick around at least for a little while longer, you will see how nice and supportive this gang of fibromites are!

I'm another one that could never tolerate artificial sweetners and I have Fibro.
I hope you stay with this sight ,I believe we all are fearful about this disease and we are all looking for answers,I know I am because I am getting so much worse so I am constantly looking for something that I am doing now or have done in my past to blame.

I found that Aspertame is the worst thing for my Fog. When I used it or drank something with it in it that was the worst time for me.
