Do You Have "Episodes" of Fibromyalgia?

No, not to the extent you describe. I do have times when I hurt a lot more, and also when I feel weak and fluish, but not to the point where I'm bedridden...that sounds awful! You'll probably be getting some more opinions soon. It could be fibro with another condition on top of it - that happens a lot.

Welcome to the forum, sotired! As a wife it must be difficult to see your husband
suffer. I'm sorry for what you both are going through. It is frustrating waiting
for a diagnosis and pain relief.

Fibromyalgia is hard to diagnose, lots of symptoms are also those of connective
tissue diseases. I'm assuming your husband has had bloodwork done to rule out
autoimmune possibilities. Please check out fibro 101, top of page one...lots of
wonderful information.

Fibro can cause debilitating pain and increases in pain levels, we call flares.
Sometimes when the pain and fatigue is really bad,it is tempting to stay in bed,
that is the worse thing for us. Inactivity can actually make you hurt all the more.
Gentle stretching is a must for me before I get out of bed. Moist heat helps...
long soaks in the tub are great. Getting a daily walk in helps too.

Encourage your husband to keep active doing something he enjoys, this will help
distract his pain. It is hard to dwell on pain if you are busy or having fun.

Has his doctors given him any meds for pain relief? Many of us were found to be very vitamin D deficent and that can cause achiness. For fatigue I take 5000mcgs
of B-12 dailty. There are differant presciption med combos, docs may offer. We
all tollerate meds so differantly, it is trial and error.

Hoping your husband will get a dx soon, so that a treatment plan can be started.
This forum has many wonderful, caring people who help eachother and we do
understand pain. It might help your husband to join us. Sometimes it really helps
to know you are not alone!

Hi, Sotired, and welcome!  I'm glad you found us and joined in.  Well,  you husband's symptoms sound a lot like fibromyalgia BUT we have this all of the time and aren't usually bedridden.  We have the aches and pains. fatigue, some have depression and we have some occasional nausea but I know I've never lost my appetite.  Also, it doesn't go away for a while.  That's what I'm assuming is happening to your husband.  That is really confusing, to say the least. 

 

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  There is a list of symptoms and you can compare that with what is going on with your husband.  Also there are other great links to check out that will give you a better idea of life with fibro.  There, also, is a like called What Else Could It Be.  Check that out.  You can google some of these illnesses to see if perhaps that is what is going on.  I'm sure most, if not all, have already been ruled out, though, if your doctors were thorough.  I'm sure he's gone through a battery of tests. 

 

I hope you get to the bottom of this.  I'm sure it's frightening because  you have no idea what really is going on.  Please let us know what you find out.  We really do care about you.

A thought I had, since its so cyclical..........(and this is totally guessing)........maybe it has something to do with his hormones (just like we women have.). Has he had his testosterone levels checked when he goes into his bad cycle?
