Hello my fibro family,

Okay I had to go to my rheumy today because I'm having pain in both of my hips now. I just had a cortisone shot on the 6th of the month and it is not helping at all and i can only lay on my back which I hate. I was'nt due back until the 2nd of nov. Anywho i asked my rheumy was there anything he could do about the burning and pain in my shoulders and neck he he said he could give me a shot and I said no way because I don't want to be sore. Well he does the trigger point test on me and he said that I am very tender all over my body and he says he wants to up my gabapetin to 300 mgs 4xs a day and that should help also he said if this does'nt help he suggests going back to my pain management doctor to get on some pain regimen I told him the pain pills help but what happens when i go back to work i can't take the meds at work and it only masks the pain and then i think i am wonder woman and can do anything (LOL) and plus i dont want to get hooked on pain pills because i know if i take them i feel better but then pay for it later. Anyway he extended my disability until the 7th of dec so i will see what happens.

Sorry you're having so much pain, Stacy. It is kind of a catch-22 with pain pills, I agree. You feel better on them so you do too much to make up for all the times you can't do anything! I hope you get some relief soon.

Im sorry you are dealing with so much pain right now Stacey, I do understand you not wanting to get hooked on the pills but somehow there has to be a mixture of balancing the pain somehow. I hope you figure out a way to do this and still be happy with your decisions.

Stacey, I totally understand! My doctor wants to get me addicted to morphine! Do I really need to ad a drug addiction to my list of problems?!

I take tramadol, which is a form of morphine/opium. If that is what you are referring to. It's okay, I'm about to take one right now actually. Kinda interested in this cortisone shot, I think I need one or two (hips hurting too). Lately my jaw one the right side has been very sore and throbbing, same with my skull. Let me know if your stuff helps, gl Zorc.

I have been put on an extended release pain med, it helps. I find that sitting with a heating pad or taking a very long hot shower heals release the muscles. In order to sleep, I take a muscle relaxer (also on really bad days).

Zorc, I tried tramadol, it is classified as an "opioid" however it causes a serotonin release(similar to anti-depressants); whereas morphine works on the central nervous system causing sedation/analgesic (similar to pain relievers such as Vicodin, Percocet, dermerol etc.).

I have had the series of 3 shots, in three months..leading to about 6 weeks of pain relief after the final shot (three weeks between each shots of relief). It has been recommended that I have additional cortiscone shots in my neck, shoulders and lower back to relieve majority of the muscle spasms. Only thing, is each shot laid me up in bed for about two days and only gave two full weeks of complete relief (the last week was intermittent) and the pain specialist did not think more shots were needed.

I have been thinking about getting some accupuncture and a chiropractric treatments to relieve the tension and spasms. A friend of mine suggested bee venom therapy (she uses it on some of her M.S. / arthritis patients with great success. Since my husband keeps bees, I have about 200,000 bee is the backyard! Has anyone tried been venom therapy??

Hi Court and welcome to our fibro family, I havent heard of the bee therapy for fibro but have heard of it for MS. My husband has MS and we know some people that swear that it really helps. My husband hasnt tried it due to the fact that I am afraid of bees and he is not a great lover of them either. Good luck with whatever you decide and let us know how it works for you if you do try it.

Stacy, It sure is trial and error when it comes to pain management, actually
iT is frustrating until you can figure out a balance. I hate feeling dopey, so I put
off using muscle relaxers unless I'm in a bad flare. I've been lucky that Savella
has helped take the edge off my pain.

Heat, exercise, relaxation therapy and keeping busy to distract the pain is what
works for me. Being a fibromite, we have a lower threshold to pain so it does
make it more challenging. Hoping you can find what works for you :)
